Leila - this is great, looks like a good place to get in with and I
tink it would be good to do the fete if anyone can.
Mary Pole the media intern at Oxfam has post the following blog on the
Oxfam website and sent it out to various online media publications
(she didn't say specifically what) but it's really good.

Alex if you can't make Sunday is anyone else able to print off an
email sign up sheet to bring along?
I went to TWSY today and they had run out of leaflets so I gave them
more. The music was fine for the event and it was pretty busy so
hopefully we'll get some of their regulars popping along!

> Like mad dogs and Englishmen you'll find us all out in the midday sun this month as we take our events beyond the cafe walls and out into the garden. Make sock puppets and smash crockery at our second summer fete of the year, take your knitting outdoors at our knit and crochet club, then wine and dine under the sinking evening sun at our Vegan Gourmet Night. We may never want this summer to end...
>
> VEGAN GOURMET NIGHT
> Tasty food at an even tastier price!
> Date and price TBC, 7.30-11pm
>
> We launched our new Vegan Gourmet Night with great success last month. The evening was completely sold out, the food was delicious and a good time was had by all! Read a lovely review of the evening by Lauren from Eat Me Drink Me and have a look at some of the photos here.
>
> The final menu will be announced on our website sometime this week, so keep checking for more information. For all the latest updates, don't forget to follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
>
> FETE BRITAIN!
> Saturday 12th June, 1.30-11pm, free entry, donations welcomed
> This is an all dayer full of fete-al attractions, live music and performance. Head to the garden for a rummage through the jumble, make crafy purchases at the art stalls, or sip a creamy tea and take part in ukulele jams. Free zine, stencil making and sock puppet talent show workshops will be running throughout the day, materials provided, lost socks welcomed.

> Live music from: L.O.V.E Cherryaid's finest The Bobby McGees. Described as "Dostoyevsky Doing Skiffle!" (Everett True) and often cited as the founders of tweecore pukering up for a glasgow kiss, expect cherry bombs, melodicas, full beards, and songs influenced by words seen written on toilet walls.

> Plus Minnie Londoner, Johanna Tordjman, Animal Magic Tricks and Rebecca Hope
>
> Entry is free, but donations will be welcomed.
>
> FRIDAY NIGHT JAMBOREE - 4th June, 7-11pm, free entry
> Americana, Bluegrass, Country, Roots and Rockabilly
>
> This month's Jamboree is going a little lower key than usual, as we're bringing you three fantastic solo acts as opposed to our usual ruckus of five- piece country and bluegrass bands!
>
> This Friday is still one not to be missed, with Rockabilly from the fantastic J.D Smith, contemporary Americana from Henry Brill and rootsy sounds from Benjamin Folke Thomas.
>
> If you fancy a chilled cider after work and an evening of laid back Rootsy vibes then the cafe is the place for you this Friday!

> MAKE, DO, MEND

Keep an ear out for word of them getting involved in some our garden events over the summer though!
>
> Don't be shy to register your interest in future classes with Claire and Bee. They run small classes all over London and tailor each class to meet the wants of people in each area. Email

> Alfresco Knitting!
> Knitting and Crochet Club - Monday 7th and 21st June, 5-7.30pm
>
> As the weather is getting sunnier we'll be moving the knitting club into the great outdoors and indulging in a spot of al fresco crafting. Our knitting and crochet club meets at the cafe every other Monday, it's free to join and it's open to all ages and abilities. All you have to do is bring some yarn and needles and we'll teach you the basics to get you started. If you're a seasoned pro, bring your WIP's and show us a thing or two.

> The Gallery Cafe Book Club - Monday 14th June, 6-8pm
> 'The Rings of Saturn' by W.G.Sebald
>
> In August 1992, W.G. Sebald set off on a walking tour of Suffolk, one of England's least populated and most striking counties. A long project--presumably his first book The Emigrants, his great anatomy of exile, loss and identity--had left him spent. Initially his tour was a carefree one. Soon, however, Sebald was to happen upon "traces of destruction, reaching far back into the past", in a series of encounters so intense that a year later he found himself in a state of collapse in a Norwich hospital.
> The Rings of Saturn is his record of these travels, a phantasmagoria of fragments and memories, fraught with dizzying knowledge and desperation and shadowed by mortality. As inThe Emigrants, past and present intermingle: the living come to seem like supernatural apparitions while the dead are vividly present.
>
> The group welcomes new members of all ages, and as long as you've read the book you are invited to come along and join us on Monday 17th May at 6pm when we'll be meeting up to discuss the book over cups of tea and some cake.
>
> If you are interested in joining the book club, please email Natalie
nataliejoe...@cantab.net beforehand.

> Volunteering at The Gallery Cafe
>
> Volunteering is a fantastic way to get involved in your local community, gain new skills and meet new people. The Gallery Cafe has a long tradition of working with volunteers, and they are an invaluable asset to us in supporting our chefs and our front of house staff.
>
> Over the last few months we have been working hard to develop our volunteer scheme, giving all our policies and procedures the once over, as well as implementing a reward and recognition scheme to help us thank our hard working volunteers. As well as the cafe, we are now offering a number of other exciting opportunities for volunteers including a charity shop, an African women's charity and a Somali Arts shop.
>
> For more information or if you would like to volunteer at the cafe or one of our other exciting opportunities, please contact our volunteer coordinator Zoe: 020 8980 2092/...@
