Hi Everyone

It was a disappointing turn out to tonight's meeting in terms of new
members as only myself and Adizah turned up at the gallery cafe :( I
had a few people at the fete on Saturday saying they were coming but
no-one has replied to my emails either confirming they want to be more
involved or can commit. Therefore, Adizah and I spoke about the
direction the group should take as we have ourselves, Leila, Claire
and Alex who respond and attend regulary.

Lucy has let me know about some events that are taking place at
weekends in East London - mainly free music / fetes asking if we want
a stall. We are committed to the 1234 Shoreditch Festival which we
were all keen to do, however personally I do campaigning with Oxfam
through Outreach at similar events when I can but I cannot give up
more time for a stall on Saturdays or Sundays. Please can you let me
know your thoughts on this and if anyone is free to run a stall let
Lucy know. The events are:

Shoreditch Festival Fri 16th - Sun 18th July
Bethnal Green Praxis - 10th July

I am keen for us to meet and do actions for Oxfam's campaigns that fit
in around around our lives such as: group letter writing; film
screeeings; creating links with Dalston Oxfam shop & local cafes such
as Tina We Salute You & The Gallery cafe and run swap shops, tea
parties etc using their venue and tapping into their existing
customers. Claire has suggested trying to get new members by putting
adverts online on gumtree or green forums and the cafe blogs /
newsletters.

Can everyone let me know their thoughts!

Thanks
Tessa

Hi all,

Shame about the meeting turn out! Did you like Gallery Cafe? It's a shame their ad didn't bring anyone new, but if we were to settle to having meetings in the same place every week it could help draw people in.

I'm up for 1-2-3-4 Festival. But I agree I'm very much up for creative campaigning rather than just doing stalls.

Did you manage to discuss the plan for the next event? Who took all the ideas people wrote at Tina We Salute You? At the next meeting, we could run through them and vote for one to go with.

Hi

Gallery cafe is great and I have written out all of the ideas put
forward for events and was hoping at the meeting for us to decide on
what to do.

Lucy has been in touch about having a stall on 10th July at an event
in Bethnal Green to try and get more members. Please can people let me
know asap if they are free to do this as I need to email the event
organisers. I am away at Glastonbury from next Tuesday so I need to
get back to him before then; as I explained I cannot commit to anymore
weekends for Oxfam over the summer.

Thanks
Tessa

Could we have a meeting Monday?

Would be good to talk through the ideas and vote on one. I think we continue with what we are doing, if we show we are starting to take action we will attract new members. It's always hard to draw people to something new...it seems like work!

What does everyone think?

Hi guys,

Just wanted to support what Leila says- you are in a really good position with five core members. Developing things just does take a while. For every 20 people you get signed up who say they are interested you probably only get one person actually involved. I can imagine that the two of you sitting there in the caf last week would have felt a bit rubbish, but even our biggest most long established groups have weeks  where no one turns up!

Don't be discouraged, things are actually going swimmingly, it's just that people need to be able to see what you are doing before they buy into it.

Thanks for all you are doing,

Lucy
xx

Hi

I can make 7-8pm on Monday - can everyone else? I agree with Leila too
that creative events and regular meetings will hopefully attract
people and the people we have got so far make a good team! We have
lots of ideas collected so it would be good for us to sit down and
discuss which one to start planning!

Thanks

Tess
