Hi Everyone

Here are the things Claire, Leila and I discussed at last night's
meeting:

Leila to find out how often the Gallery Cafe have the book club 6-8pm
on Mondays and hold our meetings at the same time (we think it may be
every 1st or 3rd Monday each month)

Once this is confimed I will contact the Vortex in Dalston and see if
we can have the meetings there every 1st or 3rd Monday

Then we want to make a poster outlining when and where we definitely
meet (Monday evenings preferably) which we can put up in a few cafes,
the Dalston Oxfam shop and email to other organisations to print and
put up. We can also put this on facebook and it will stop all of the
endless emails trying to arrange meeting times!!

Alex- we hope you still want to be involved and would like to make the
poster?

Claire to contact Ecoactive to see if they have any people interested
in becoming members & we thought in order to attract new people we
would try to put on a small event in conjunction with the Gallery Cafe
or another charity. The idea is to link with the discussion group and
see if we can get a speaker to the cafe to talk about a campaign or
Oxfam's work - this would then be part of a letter writing evening.
For example if someone came to speak on the Robin Hood tax then we
could write letters to local MPs on this topic.

There are a lot of other charities supporting this campaign so there
must be other campaign groups who would be up for letter writing or a
discussion! When I am back from Glastonbury next week I can look into
this more. Leila to look into Oxfam speakers.

We cannot commit to the Praxis event in Bethnal Green on 10th July - I
have emailed them to say unfortunately no-one is available. Please
keep Sat 24th July free if you can for 1234 Shoreditch - we have 4
passes
We discussed to plan to do small events like swap shops, tea parties,
discussions, film screenings etc and then to work towards putting on a
fashion show with the Dalston shop and create a film showing the cycle
of clothing and what happens to it when customers donate to the shop.

Next meeting is proposed at Mon 5th July - Leila to confirm when the
next book club is at the gallery cafe

Thanks

Tess

Hi all,

Good news! I just spoke to Siobhan at the Gallery Cafe. She is happy to help us promote the group in whatever way possible. She said we can have whichever Mondays we like and if we agree with them they will happily stay open until 8pm! How would people feel about having the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month? I know we talked about having meetings in two different places...I wonder if it's better to stick to one place if we can as we did say Gallery cafe has the advantages of being central and they are really open to us using the space. I need to let her know by the end of the week as she will put us in their newsletter and leaflets.

I mentioned that you write blogs Adizah and she said that they would love to put in a guest blog, so if you wanted to submit anything (even if it was the blog you did for Oxfam) they would happily put it up.

In terms of the speaker, she was really encouraging, they would help promote with twitter, on the website and Facebook. The discussion group unfortunately was just one person so has stopped. But, if we organised a speaker for one meeting (we could invite friends to bring up numbers) they would happily host us.

I hope that's clear I'm trying to get everything out before I forget.

One final thing, I should have sent invites if I worked it out right, but join izwe! It's a social enterprise aiming to connect people with decision makers and mobilise local communities! I set up an East London Oxfam Campaigns Group and we have 7 members! Hopefully one or two might start coming to meetings if we promote them there. Join here: http://www.izwe.com/. Any questions let me know.

Ok that's it, I'm typed out! Leila :)

Hi all,

Stephen booked me tickets to Ben and Jerrys Sundae Festival so my place at the 1-2-3-4 festival is going spare...!

Hope all is well,

Leila

hello all

sorry for my delay in replying but I was sunning myself at Glastonbury
(and campaigning for Oxfam!)

Ok so that's great news re gallery cafe, it sounds like they are
really supportive and can help us promote the group. 1st & 3rd Mondays
are good for me, shall we have the next meeting 7-8pm on Mon 5th ie
next Monday? Please confirm if you can come and I will send out a
facebook email.

I also need confirmation of who can attend 1234 Shoreditch. We have 4
passes. We need to get a table and chairs to the event - Claire I
wondered if you could ask Rick from the Oxfam shop if he could help
get these to Shoreditch park? You said your friend has a decorating
table so we just need some chairs....

Artopia in Bethnal Green Mon 2nd - Wed 4th Aug at the LEB building in
Bethnal Green looks like something we definitely can be involved with
and I have spoken to Lucy briefly about it. She suggested having a
presence there to have a recruitment drive and promote the group at
the event. and We can discuss at the meeting who is free to attend.

I started looking into other charities that support the Robin HOod tax
and have a group in East London. Both Action Aid and Friends of the
Earth had active groups and may be worth contacting for a joint event
with a speaker, discussion and letter writing.

Ok let me know about the 5th asap and hopefully see you all next week!

Tess

Hi Guys,

Just to let you know I will be there tomorrow. I can't attend the Shoreditch Festival as I'm working that day.

See you guys tomorrow.
