SDOT announces $1,000 grant for school safety due October 25th

The Safe Routes to School Mini Grant program is capable of funding small safety improvement programs or very small infrastructure improvements. The grant is quick, easy, nearly always successful in getting funding, and does not require a match. More importantly, even this small grant can make a big impact helping children safely walk and bike to school. Your group can do this! 

Among other things, this grant can fund a biking or walking train, crossing flags, repainting a crosswalk, or (news to us) creating a walk/bike to school map through school community meetings. Expenses to consultants for help (potentially you, someone in your greenways group, PTA, etc) need to be kept under $599.

Applications are now being accepted through October 25, 2013 by end of business day. Applicants will be notified of grant awards December 6, 2013 and funds will be dispersed in early January 2014. For examples of successful applications from previous years, click here and here.
 
To apply, follow these two simple steps:
  • Complete the Mini Grant Application and submit by October 25, 2013 by end of day. Follow this link to apply online or click here to download an application that can be submitted by email or mail to the contact provided below.
  • Submit a letter of support from your principal by October 25, 2013 by end of day. Email or mail the letter to this contact:

Note: A second funding cycle will begin in late April 2014 for fund distribution in early July 2014.
