After easter we had bounced around the idea of doing a fall outreach evangelism event in late September, on a Saturday. I was wondering what y'all thought and if you be interested in helping again. Sept 17 or 24th look like good weekends.

FICCC is trying to do an inter-fellowship outreach event on September 23 I believe.

And I also remembered that the DG national conference is also that weekend and I'll be going. I don't need to be here for the event but I'd like to be.

What kind of event are you guys thinking about? Like another large scale service?

I've been thinking more about what I'd like to see happening on campus. I know that the Lord has definitely used these evangelistic events in the past and there are definitely pluses to doing them, but I feel that we need to really start emphasizing what it means to make disciples and how anyone and everyone can do it. We need to emphasize that true outreach happens with their friends on an everyday level through meals and studying and just hanging out and being intentional about it through our discussions.

Doing a large scale event would require a lot of time and effort in what would now take a very short amount of time. I suggest that we hold that off for maybe another time.

Another thing that's on my mind from the Easter event was follow up, sadly it rained and all those flimsy contact cards got owned but I don't know if people honestly met up with their own friends to discuss what went on afterwards.

These are just some of my thoughts.

Fall outreach sounds like a good idea; however, there's something else that i've been thinking about a lot these days.

What if we were to focus on "inreach" to equip for outreach? for example, we could hold a series of sessions where we invited believers to come practice how to share the gospel, learn how to ask questions that would lead to Jesus-centered conversations, be encouraged to lead discovery bible studies with friends, have a time of prayer for specific non-christian friends, and to ultimately be encouraged to live out loud on campus. i think that could make a more sustainable long-term impact of evangelism. maybe there could be a large group held at the end of these sessions where students would be asked to invite their non-christian friends to a night of talking about God.

maybe this isn't necessary for our campus or it could be impractical, but... just a thought :)

I really like Grace's ideas. They also seem to dovetail with the initiative that's being discussed for West campus (adding StephKO to this thread).

Public evangelism/events (the "aerial game") and personal/frienship evangelism (the "ground game") are not mutually exclusive. Both were catalysts for explosive growth after Pentecost.  I personally think we have both the spiritual and human capital at Cornell right now to pursue both. Just my thoughts...
