Life is fine, I guess.

Nothing new. The Bean is starting to say a few words, sign a few words. Still not walking.

I play a few games, allegedly. Only one seems to have regular activity.

If anyone's interested, I have an original fantasy world in which I would be willing to try to run a game. If you're interested. It would probably be a little more like a "You guys say what you're up to, and I'll basically GM from there." scenario.

If you have any threads you super want to do at Eastern, I'm all ears for that as well. We can probably JP off list and then post it all at once when it's worked out.

Soooo I was talking to Rida about it and will talk to Betsy later tonight, but current thought:

Eastern is currently set up for a much bigger group (like, 20+ people, all with active multiple characters). That's where it gets bogged down, because we don't have that and can't support our own weight. So in order to make it successful, we'd have to pare it down. We were already discussing things like linear timelines maybe changing (day ratios or maybe something different?), NPC wings, and not having IC Hatchings multiple times a year.

So... let's say we revive the zombie yet again. What would y'all want to see? What kinds of things would you like to play? (Day by day hijinks, set events, pre-planned murder mysteries, regular open-ended prompts, nuking Pern, I don't know)

I'm totally on board with paring down and doing something with a smaller focus. That definitely helps keep things on track and moving forward.

Well, all of the above I guess. We should probably cut back on the hatchings since it seems that most Weyrs get tangled up trying to do too many.

I do like the sandbox element where you can just run out and start a random thread to play about in. Whatever works best I suppose.

I'm with Mike in that I think the sandbox element was fun. Perhaps we could combine it with the prompt and say be given a set schedule for the coming three months in character that may or may not used to advance a storyline.

 For example the schedule could include a gather at Ista hold,  which could be used as a source for storylines or  someone could easily choose to have a thread about day-to-day life.  As the relative newbie of the group,  having the weyrling training schedule on the website was super helpful for me as far as  finding appropriate setting etc.

I actually believe, when we let things drift, we were gearing up for a gather at the hold (and some unresolved plotlines therein).  That's not a bad way to do it.

Hello everyone!

I've missed you all so much. >.<

When Rachel texted me today I'd already been eyeing this thread for months - I really miss my characters and writing with all you guys. I've definitely agree that something more toned down is necessary if we want to keep it workable, but I've longed for a random thread or two for years now, and when you just want to WRITE something whether or not it conforms to a regimented and ever-updated timeline is really quite beside the point, heehee. ^_^

I'm up not only for a lot more assumed NPCs & fewer bells & whistles IC events, but also for relaxing the rules a bit to allow more freedom for everyone to explore whatever kind of characters they'd like to play - maybe we could allow people to bring in bronze- or goldriders from other Weyrs during Gathers, and/or have a separate board to post outside-Eastern threads. Just opening it up for discussion. ^_^

Anyway, I missed you! I live! And I'm keen to write with y'all again. ^_^

Hmmm? I have Ozmyr (candidate at last count) Khedren (healer) and A'ryk (brown weyrling). It will depend on the date we are starting back up as to how they will be situated. Not so much for Khedren but Ozmyr might have a dragon if enough time passes and A'rky could be in the wings. Oh, the possibilities are just limitless.  :D

I definitely want to bring back everyone lol, but I don't know if that's smart right off the bat. The twins will definitely be revived, and definitely E'lix ("Arly!" *heart eyes*). I'm thinking that if we don't put so much emphasis on candidate characters and hatching it might make things easier till the group is back on it's feet. If we move ahead a year or two maybe we could move the current candidates into the weyrling group?

If you would like your candidate to have Impressed since we left off, then you are more than welcome to write up and submit a dragon for them. We can have, say, three classes currently (now-currently, not then-currently) each a different number of months in so people could pick what class they want to have Impressed with. ^_^

I always did kind of want for Ozmyr to Impress a bronze because I'm a sucker for big huge dragons.  :D  It's worth mentioning that in some of the Weyrs I've been in hatchings were always the most stressful thing for the staff to put together and there was a tendency for players to get kind of lazy for anything that wasn't hatching related. With that in mind it just occurred to me that it might be in our best interest to take them out of the equation altogether for at least a few months. That way maybe we can build up our player base a bit, get folks back into the habit of posting just to role play and maybe concentrate on some other things. If the good folks who run things still want to do hatchings I'm good with that too. Just trying to be helpful and offer a bit of feedback.  :)

We... actually ran out of Candidates. :X That was why we were thinking about NPCing some Hatchings, to give everyone enough time to come up with a decent stable.

So we, collective group we, would probably need to look at who has weyrlings, what ages, and what they'd like to play out (last few months are pretty boring, not gonna lie), who has Candidates, what ages, and what they'd like to play out, and find some sort of compromise.

And then also purge the character list some, not gonna lie. I think we were either moving or about to move inactive characters to functionally NPC wings?

We were in the process of removing inactive/idle to NPC wings originally, which may not be a bad idea to continue.  Much is available still at the old site for Eastern, and I think all characters have been migrated, though not necessarily all the informational pages were. (I can't remember if I ever shared the new site I was building with the broader group.)

I think a BoD pow-wow might be needed to nail down a specific plan, but sounds like everyone is okay with the idea of a time skip, some behind-the-scenes stuff, and then going forward from there with a smaller, more tight knit crew.  Sound right?

For me at least I don't mind waiting for BoD desire/willingness/ability to do Hatchings again to wait for Lanarona to Impress. ^_^ So I'd like to still keep her a Candidate (I believe she and Lea were only 16 anyway, so it's not like her time is really at risk of running out that soon in the time skip). Plus I had a lot of growth I wanted for her while she was still a Candidate.

Rachel, would you still be interested in continuing Arly/E'lix and their awkward, adorable romance?

I don't want to skip too far--there's still the ickle baby dragons who have all sorts of fun milestones and even the older class is only at month like... 13ish or so (by website), so they're in the fun thick of it too. Candidates are pretty much under 20, so that's not critical. Even if only 7ish weyrlings are activated. >.<

So, this might seem like a dumb question but when we start will the Myth Busters or Game Changers have graduated yet? And are there still going to be some candidates left in the barracks? I'm a bit torn about whether or not to ask for a dragon for Ozmyr and make him a candidate now or wait for the next hatching....whenever that might be. I could do it either way. I just know that I like that character a lot and want to play him some more.

Spitballing:

What if we jumped to the Mid-Summer Gather, about 6 months out? I can dump all of the Weyrling lesson copypastas through that period so all the babies don't get screwed out of their fun milestones and writers can pick and choose their super fun lessons that they want to play. Drag it out as long as you want, IMO, because I personally would be terrible at trying to write months 3, 5, and 6 simultaneously.

And everyone is ALWAYS welcome to backdate! We could probably come up with some random minor events that happened in those six months to give people something to talk about at the Gather.

That is entirely dependent on how much writer activity we muster up and having a reasonable roster of Candidates. :/ So... stay tuned? Hatchings are pretty awesome, but they are not so awesome when there are only like 2 people playing it out.

I believe the idea was to hold off on a hatching for a while because those take a lot of work to plan and write up, and we really don't have the Candidate base for it right now (if I'm not completely mistaken about our current census being the people involved in this thread, then Lanarona is looking to be the only female Candidate on the current roster. The boys took a heavy hit to population too).

 Hmmmm.  I was thinking (yeah, I know.....always a dangerous thing ). Maybe we should all post a little blurb about what our babies were doing for the six month intermission and what their plans are now. I know that a couple of mind would have changed a bit even in that short of a time span. It might give us more ideas for personal plots and threads.
