Almost finished reading Dragonsdawn for the first time and it's so good! I can't believe I've been in this fandom for so long without reading THE origin story for the entire series. I just got to the part where they're moving from the Southern Continent to the Northern Continent-- honestly I had no idea they switched Continents because of volcanic activity!

I also didn't know that the very first batch of bio-engineered dragons were mostly golds and bronzes, with only a couple browns mixed in. But it makes sense to start out with a large number of the "breeders" to propagate the species as quickly as possible, then start turning out the "workers" later down the line. Of course at first even the golds and bronzes were the size of a large horse-- I guess at that point in dragon evolution the greens and blues wouldn't have even been big enough to ride.

I think I'm going to re-read the rest of the series in chronological order. Before I had only read them in publication order through Moreta, and I think I'd like to continue my journey through Pernese history! That means Dragonseye is next!

You're in for a -real- treat.  Dragonseye is probably my favorite, followed by Skies, then ATWOP, then Dawn.  I won't spoil anything for you though!

Actually in a bygone era (years ago now, heh) I was part of a Dragonsdawn-timeline but AU Dragonriders forum.  It was fun before it imploded, mixing some tech and 'modern' lingo with early dragonriders.

That does sound awesome, Rida. And I LOVE Dragonsdawn and the flitters and Sorka and Sean and their dragons. xD

Rida - I've never played that early in Pernese history, so it sounds like an exciting adventure! That's kinda the head space I'm in right now, Pern-wise, so I can imagine some character types I'd like to try: former pilot, exo-biologist, volcanologist, and of course, original dragonrider!

Arielle - I've heard about Sean and Sorka and Faranth, of course, but it was very entertaining to meet them as children. Especially Sean-- he was such a rascal as a kid. I think my favorite character in the book was Sallah Telgar. :(

I haven't reread Dragonsdawn in a while, so I don't remeber exactly who my favorite character was, but I do love Sean and Sorka at any age. xD

Ah god, Sallah. <3 Sallah and Tillek were my favorites. And Sallah's hubby. Ermagerd. Dragon's Dawn is my second favorite in the series, only to Chronicles of Pern; First Fall, because CoP is what actually got me to UNDERSTAND the setting and fall in love with it.

Finished! It's been a while since I've been disappointed to see a book end...I wish the story had kept going a while longer. So is Chronicles a sequel to Dragonsdawn? I'd really like to find out how Emily Boll fared, and how the golds did with their first clutches, etc.

Chronicles is sort of Prequel, Sequel, Epilogue, all rolled into one. It doesn't honestly follow any ONE timeline, but the setting as a whole. What leads up to Dawn, some of the parts touched upon IN Dawn, and some of the things after Dawn ends. Highly recommended by me. I love that book so much.

I've put in a request from my public library for Chronicles, and I'm picking up Dragonseye today! Hooray! ^_^
