The sun was beginning to set and the sky was over cast as they walked along the beach. Ozmyr studied the sky for a moment and decided that it was going to rain within a few candlemarks. There was still more than enough time to enjoy their walk before having to seek shelter from a coming storm.

Walking with him was K'nek, the young man's Greenrider friend with benefits. He had been most grateful for the older fellows friendship and help in coming to accept what he really was when coming to the Weyr. Having come from the Holds being bisexual as they seemed to call it was a secret he had to keep closely or risk being ostracized or worse.

"I imagine it's no fun to fight thread in the rain," he said, still studying the sky. His small bronze firelizard lay curled around his neck and grumbled a bit as the young man spoke. He smiled at bit at Shadow's irritation. Poor little fellow could be tempremental at times but had to learn he wasn't the boss in their relationship. "There are so many things here that I can't imagine....what it will be like at my first hatching.....or having a dragon in my mind at all times. Shadow here is a bit of preperation for that I suppose but not nearly the same."

He glanced over towards K'nek to see if he had anything to add. Ozmyr tended to relax and just let his thoughts flow freely in the other man's presence.

(Sorry if something is wrong with the date. With the change over I had to guess what would be a good time to use. o.O )

K'nek was happy to listen, and he strolled along, mostly quiet, and enjoyed Ozmyr's company as they went. He was actually quite happy to experience something like what he thought was a more normal Candidacy vicariously through his friend. His own had come immediately after an earthquake that had killed his brother, something that took him some time to come to terms with.

"Ye know, the rain usually isna the worst part. I mean, it does make it harder to see, sure, but water kills Thread, too," he added. "So we donna usually even have to fly in the heavier rain. The wind out before the storm is the real hard part," said K'nek. His firelizard, Sibbie, lifted her head from where she had lain, curled up on her boy's shoulder and peered around, looking for some sign of anything ominous. Then, she looked to Shadow for any sign that he was perturbed. In case she had to warn them of anything...

"But ye learn. They teach ye somethin' good here. If they could teach me how to do it, then anyone can learn.  It isna all that different from the little ones, mebbe, but it's a lot stronger. A lot more... deep." Nohruth sent a wave of apologetic sentiment toward K'nek from where she lay waiting for them on the sand, and K'nek chuckled sending back his reassurance.

((Donna say yer sorry, love. I wouldna have it any other way.)) The poor green thought everything was her fault, even when nothing was wrong.

Ozmyr chuckled a bit at his friends words. He wasn't sure why K'nek was so modest but it was quite the endearing trait. They had an easy friendship between them that made it easy to just be happy and enjoy the others company.

"I think you learned better than you let on," the younger boy observed with a smile. "I suppose though that how to fight thread and what a dragon feels like in my mind is the sort of thing I'm just going to need to see for myself when the time comes."

He paused then and picked up a smooth stone from the sand at their feet. With a well aimed toss he made it skip out in the waves for a good six bounces before it sunk into the water. Shadow only gave one complaining chirp for having been unbalanced when Ozmyr bent over.

"He's a demanding little fellow, I'll say that for him. And hungry all the time. I know he's just a baby and all but his appetite seems all out of reason to his size. Not sure where he puts it all...."

"This kinda learning comes a little easier to me than Harper learning," K'nek admitted. "Ye remember the patterns, and then remember what to do when Thread tells the patterns to sod off. It's all muscle memory. And my muscles have a bit of a better memory than my head." He grinned.

Sibbie chirped at the hatchling firelizard on Ozmyr's shoulder. "Ye know," said K'nek, "that sorta thing is about the same with the dragons when they first hatch. I didna think Nohruth was ever gonna stop eating. But... ye know, she did eventually. Well, I mean, all the time. So I reckon the little ones are about the same. Seems to be the way I remember it with Sibbie, too." He grinned and scritched his little green's eyeridge.
