With time, R’ien overcame his speech impediment and memory issues. He remained in the ranks until retirement, whereupon he resumed woodcrafting. He and Heirax had two more children after Daykas (who entered Candidacy and Impressed a blue, Eihath, at fourteen), another boy named Renhei (who went into healing) and a girl named Rhimeri (after Rhianna and Meria), who followed in her grandsire Dayren’s footsteps and became a beastcrafter.
While juggling the demands of motherhood and making sure the kids grew up well, Heirax gained her mastery at thirty-one, transitioning into physical therapy, helping riders recover from various and often Threadfall-related injuries. She remained close with her family, and True lived to a very old age under her care.
L’kas and Kyoth, never having political aspirations, turned down the offers to become a Wingsecond until they finally stopped coming. While they both acquired a few more scores and scars, nothing removed them from the force for long, or from Rhianna, whom L’kas never stopped loving. The two didn’t have children, but L’kas took a lot of unexpected pleasure in being “Uncle L’kas” to R’ien’s and Heirax’s brood, and spoiled them shamelessly.
Kioko kept close to Fi and Satyrth, and eventually weyrmated at thirty-one to a bluerider, M’ger, who also enjoyed dancing, and whose bond Hipomeneth was a lot like Atalanth, persistently catching the green in several flights. Kioko turned out to be one hell of a Threadfighter; so much so, she was given an offer to become a Wingthird when she turned forty-two. She accepted only to placate Atalanth, who wanted the position more than she did. Despite the stress and demand, Kioko held the position for seven Turns before finally convincing Atalanth to let her pass the job on to someone else just as capable. The green moped, but she got over it. Atalanth and Kioko lost their lives in Threadfall only a Turn away from retirement, protecting weyrlings on their first firestone ferry. M’ger and Hipomeneth never weyrmated again, and kept Waltz with them until the end of their days.
A’lexi and Larzeth also lost their lives in Threadfall, defending a bluepair who accidentally teleported too close to a Thread cluster. Heartbroken, Ashuli dedicated herself to helping Haizea raise her half sister, Lexiza, and later chose to enter Candidacy at sixteen. Green Yokoth chose her in her second hatching, and the two became as formidable a power in the air as A’lexi and Larzeth, gaining the nickname “the Lightning Ladies” for their speed and skill at betweening. They stayed in the wings until they were sent into retirement, vociferously protesting the whole way.
Shaune never became Headman, but he did end up a Masterbaker and Mayri’s assistant and good friend. He and Ikkee were fixtures in Eastern Weyr’s kitchen for decades, and he remained loyal to Liatris. Th’rax finally settled down with a nice lady greenrider Shaune pushed him toward, enjoying a long, quiet life.

The End.
