M'kan's firelizard egg was big and bronze and shiny and warm.  It sat buried in sand above M'kan's hearth, a large pile coals glowing warmly beneath it.  M'kan sighed in contentment as he watched it, reaching a hand gingerly towards it to shift a thin layer of sand over the top.  He'd gotten the bestest one in the entire stand, just liked he'd asked!  Even better than the gold one, he'd bet.  And it was going to hatch into the bestest little bronze on all of Pern and he was going to name it and train it and love it...

((M'kan,)) Attith chimed in suddenly, ((There's a volcano I have the sudden urge to visit.  For observation's sake.  There were some rather fascinating indigenous rocks I wish to compare to some formations in the weyrbowl.  Do you want to come?))

[[Come see a volcano?  Yeah!  Cool!  Just let me go grab some meat for my little bronzie.  He's going to hatch soon you know.  His egg's nearly as hard as Firelizard's was!]]

((The egg's not due to hatch for over a sevenday, if I recall correct, and none of the other eggs purchased at the Gather have yet cracked. The odds of yours being the first and hatching with no warning are quite small.))

[[I'll be quick, promise!]] M'kan grabbed the egg basket carefully, making sure the sand was tucked around it just right.  It couldn't get cold but he couldn't just LEAVE it either.

Despite his promise, M'kan walked very, very carefully towards the Lower Caverns, balancing the egg to prevent even a single grain of sand from spilling out.  So he was still at Eastern when Xyxith's opening challenge revibrated through the weyr, sending a pulse of unfamiliar feeling through him.

((Hurry, M'kan mine.  I don't want it to get dark, before we arrive.  Would make it most difficult to take diligent observations.))

[[Okay, okay, just give me a sec.  I don't want to KILL it.]]

((The egg will be fine.  Come, weyrbowl.  Now.  Nevermind, where are you?  I'll come get you.  And I'll kill something for the egg.  It'll be fine.))

[[I thought we were going to a volcano.]]

Mikloran lifted a lip in caustic distain. Yes, he had felt the uncanny powerful lust that he wasn't sure he could explain. . . But he wasn't giving in to it like these lesser rabble, already close to fornicating in the hallways. How disgusting. Did no one at the Weyr hold themselves to a higher standard? Keep their baser urges in check? At -least- long enough to get themselves into the privacy of their own rooms. Several people, male and female alike, had fawned over him as he strode down the hall, exuding disgust and anger as Xyxith exuded that lust. He'd heard of Goldflights, of course, but he had no idea it could devolve the entire Weyr into a mass of writhing limbs and cries of passion. Eegh. . .

He jerked himself away from the unwanted touches and all but stomped down the hall. The urge was so strong, and those fingers had stoked the fire into blazing life. . . And unless he wanted to become a part of the writhing rabble in the halls, he needed to get to his own room, away from the inticing fingers and kisses and whispers. . . Shards! He couldn't WAIT to get home! Home where it was safe and sound and you didn't have to worry about dragonflight sending you into uncontrolled. . . Orgies. . . Or whatever. . .

He had to trust that Lorali and Anomi were sequestoring themselves likewise, safe and away from the mauling hands of the unwort-"Oof!"

So intent on his distracting inner monologue, Mikloran slammed into the slighter figure with enchanting hazel eyes. . . And the most amazing riot of brown curls. . . "Faranth." He hissed softly, voice hoarse with his desire, which was suddenly rampant and too strong to deny. Almost tenderly, his lust drunk eyes on M'kan's face, head cocked to the side like a curious flit, the Beastcrafter reached up to caress M'kan's cheek, thumb tracing the cheekbone. Faranth. . . He'd never wanted someone so badly before. . .

M'kan would have jumped, when he felt someone hitting him, if it wasn't for this marvelous feeling spreading through him.  All light and bubbles and fire lizards...with a hint of something else beneath it.  Something more urgent, darker.  M'kan ignored the dark part.  He felt awesome!  Everything was shimmering and bright and beautiful and wonderful and...

Who was that?  He had the most incredible voice, whoever he was.  And his touch sent little sparks dancing through M'kan.  He was beautiful, the most beautiful man M'kan had ever seen.  M'kan stared at him in open awe, reaching up a hand towards his face, touching him gently.  He was all gold and sunlight and sky.  M'kan...M'kan LIKED him.  Liked him instantly.  How could he not?  He was...he was...

[[Attith, just give me a minute, okay?  I'll be out soon...]]

"Who...are you?  I'm M'kan.  I'm a bluerider," M'kan managed, giving the man a shy smile.
