Kalenia was excited, sure, but more than anything she was
ready to get this baby out of her and to go back to REAL dragonriding work. Not
that riding in the Queens' Wing wasn't real work for a rider, just not a
geenrider. Plus she'd become less and less helpful throughout her pregnancy. It
had made the young woman even more determined never to do this again unless it
was planned. No more unplanned pregnancies! She would make it her ritual to
take a fun few trips between after every one of Ilyenath's Flights and
after any fun times she had with her weyrmate. She really, really didn't want
to look like a blown glass balloon again any time soon.
She was unhappily sitting out Threadfall in the Dining Cavern with her mother,
brother and sister. Ilyenath and Emolith, K'ray's brown, were nearly as grumpy
as she was, sitting out the fight against their great enemy. The two endured,
but made it clear neither were happy about the situation, which made their
riders all the more on edge. Though looking at her younger brother, Kale was
sure she couldn't tell. He was just as full of easy smiles and relaxing jokes
as he'd always been.
“Ow!” Kalenia winced and put a hand to her lower back. What was going on? This hurt, but was definitely not the baby kicking. Could she be so lucky as to be going into labor during Threadfall? A glance at her mother’s now piqued face told her she very well might be. K’ray looked at her with concern, his cheery face dropping with worry. She’d always been the tough one when they were kids, never said ‘ow’ even when she’d sliced open her shin on an anvil. Rubbing her forehead with her free hand while the pain passed, Kale did some quick thinking. G’ste’s mother had to be fetched. They’d talked it out and K’ray knew the visual point now for where to go to get her.
“Should I go then?” the brownrider asked, half-rising from his seat.
“I’d say you better, son,” Kinenia said, getting up and moving around the end of the table to rub her daughter’s back. Kalenia smiled up at her mother gratefully. She was so glad to have her family with her. This would have been so much worse without them there for all of this.
K’ray gave a sloppy salute accompanied by a cheeky grin and dashed out of the Dining Cavern, Adonia shaking her head as he left. [[Ily? How’s G’ste doing? And Sohruth?]] Kalenia wanted to know how the Fall was going, wondering if she should tell her weyrmate that labor may have started. She didn’t want to worry him though, and distract him and his bronze while they needed all of their focus to fight the thread. She could tell him later she decided.
((They’re doing well from what I can tell,)) Ilyenath replied a bit tetchily to her rider, both from being sat out of the Threadfall and from the niggling pain she was starting to feel through their bond. ((I won’t tell them though. Not until you want me to.)) The green knew what her lifemate was thinking and she was also worried about their weyrmates. [[Thanks, Ily. I’ll-]] Her thoughts cut off as another contraction started, uttering a squeak that quickly morphed into a growl.
“I’m pretty sure we need to take you to the healers now, Kally,” Kalenia’s big sister said, rising too now. The greenrider could feel her mother nod behind her, though the older woman’s strong hands never stopped their soothing.
“No!” Kale protested, knowing how any injured riders would need healers more than she would. Certainly not right now, not when it had only started. Her water hadn’t even broken. Everyone always told her birth only really got going after the mother’s water broke. Right?
OOC: It's finally here! The birth thread! Yay! Family members are totally welcome to be NPC'd by folks if they want to, I'll also put up a wanted ad in the OOC board.
