The Southeast Oregon Regional Food Bank is proud to present Ken Meter, a farm and food system analyst from Minnesota, who will speak on “The Future of Food and Agriculture in Oregon: Building Local Food Economies” on May 26th in Ontario in Weese Room 10 on the Treasure Valley Community College campus at 6:00pm.
Meter is president of Crossroads Resource Center in Minneapolis, a community-based nonprofit offering research and training tools for neighborhoods, communities and others working toward community self-determination. He is also an economics instructor at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. As a journalist, Meter covered the farm credit crisis of the 1980s and international trade issues, filing first-hand reports from 11 foreign nations. His work has strengthened local food initiatives in 29 regions across 15 states.
Meter will present a picture of the food system in the Northwest and highlight possibilities and strategies for continuing to build a vibrant local food system for the future. Participants will be invited to imagine a food and agricultural economy in eastern Oregon that is strong, thriving and sustainable, one that builds food security and creates economic opportunities.
