The Wickford Regatta is always one of the best regattas of the year, this year's edition exceeded even the best expectations by delivering ideal sailing conditions 12 to 20 knots both days with some challenging periods of gusts up to 28, warm weather, a great regatta dinner, and a overwhelming feeling of gratitude for being able to have a normal regatta!
The fleet started off without missing a beat with strong competition throughout resulting in a 3 way tie for first after day one.
With Day Two essentially being a restart it was an all out battle for the regatta win. Mike Easton and Tripp Burd started strong winning the first race of the day, but Todd Riccardi and Dalton Tebo found another gear on their new fresh out of the box Nacra Evolution to win the last two races and win the event by 2 points over Mike and Tripp in second. Catamaran legend Lars Guck with his son seemed untouchable after winning the first two races of the event, but the competition was so tight that they were literally inched out at at many finishes for them to settle for third place overall.
Once again, the attrition award goes to the NAASA youth womens team of Kaleigh Morgan and Marina Barzaghi who managed the trying conditions for their first day sailing an F18 together and were super competitive right up there with the fleet.
Big thanks to our fleet member Skip Whyte who hosts this event and still manages to sail competitively all weekend!
