Hi all,

Spoke with Ed Sinofsky from the NEMA group the other day.  He wanted to extend an invitation to us (beach cat sailors) for their annual dinner with key note speaker: Stan Honey.  Among his amazing sailing accomplishments, Stan is also the inventor of the 'yellow line' used in football broadcasting.  Dinner is scheduled for Feb 5th in Quincy.  I am very interested and may be attending.

Secondly, they are trying to boost involvement of the younger generation in their fleet and have invited us all to join.  (they think we are young!!!!)  Membership special to NEMA as well as details on the dinner are noted in his email below.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Chris

Hi Chris.

Lovely day to talk about sailing, huh?  Anyway on behalf of NEMA we would like to welcome your fleet in two ways:

1.  Full membership in NEMA for those under 30years old for $20/year.  includes color newsletter seasonally, and subsidized annual dinner.   We are very interested in attracting young members, even at a financial loss.  This is a new membership created last year with the F18 fleet specifically in mind.

2. Invitation to your bunch, to our annual dinner in Quincy, MA.  This years annual speaker is Stan Honey, US Rolex Yachtsman of the year, speaking about his round the world adventures on Groupama 3 .  Saturday Feb 5 at the Venezia restaurant.   $40 ea for appetizers/buffet/dessert/coffee.  Should be very interesting and a nice way to meet more of our membership.

Let me know if you have any questions, or have other ideas in which our two groups can have closer interaction.

glowingly,

Ed Sinofsky Ph.D.

New England F18 Sailors

Please be sure to join or re-join the US F18 class before the season starts.

http://www.naf18.com/wordpress/membership/join-renew/

As most of you know the US spots for the 2012 Wolrds in Long Beach will be allocated by the US ranking system. Boats that are not members do not count toward the ranking. That means that you don’t get your points if you’re not a member. If I am reading it correctly it also means that your competitors will get less points because the total boat count (counted only by members) will be less.

More info on the ranking is at the following link.

http://www.naf18.com/wordpress/info/f18-rankings/

Looking forward to a great season,

Bob

Thanks Bob.  Just to clarify one of your points, the way I understand the rules is that only F18 fleet members receive points for the event, but the total points that are handed out at the event is based on the total number of boats.  Given the high turnout that we get at almost all our events, sailors from the north east generally place high in the rankings.
