Hey there GOOD BEER Fans,

No, you haven't been dropped from our mailing list!  But it sure has been a while since I've sent you something.  Sure, there's been the occasional "Late Breaking" bulletin, but that's more of a small taster, as compared to a full-sized, fully-carbonated 64oz newsletter.  (Yes, I do all my thinking in 64oz, Growler-sized increments.)  So, it's time for a fill-up, and there's LOADS of great news to share, so let's get to pouring a bit of it out to share, shall we?

FEEL LIKE DRINKS AND A MOVIE THIS WEEKEND?
The Banff Mountain Film Festival is this Fri/Sat/Sun (April 8-10) at the Byham Theater, with a different film each night.  So here's your chance to watch inspiring outdoor films, while enjoying some GOOD BEER this weekend.  Yes, you'll not only find Big Hop IPA and East End Witte on tap in the lobby, but some familiar faces from the brewery as well.  Check out www.ventureoutdoors.org/banff.aspx for more info, and be sure to watch the amazing preview-trailer at the bottom of the page.  Or just cut to the chase and get your tickets at http://www.pgharts.org/  See you there!

SPRING HOURS AT GROWLER SHOP, STARTING.....NOW!
If you've not popped in to the Strip District's new indoor Farmer's Market (aka The Pittsburgh Public Market), it just got a lot easier to do.  Besides, how many farmers markets do you know that sell fresh-filled Growlers of Local Beer?  Last weekend, we switched over to "Spring Hours", so that means we're pouring beer on Fridays until 6pm.  Stop in for a quick Growler fill, grab some fresh produce, or a wrap, or some sandwiches, some dessert, and you've got Friday Night's "Dinner and Drinks" in the bag!  More details about the Pittsburgh Public Market and it's many wonderful merchants (and their awesome food) can be found here: http://pittsburghpublicmarket.org/
Our hours of operation are always on the main page of the East End Brewing Website (on the right side, in RED), here: www.EastEndBrewing.com

WHEAT-FEST IS ON NOW TOO!
Right now, we've got a nice big bunch of Wheat Beers on tap, in hopes of encouraging Spring to show itself.  You can pick from our Belgian-inspired seasonal East End Witte, a Wheat-based IPA called Wheat Hop, our year-round Monkey Boy Hefeweizen, or his sister-beer Monkey Girl Dunkelweizen, that's a little lighter, a little sweeter, and with a little more color.  Now, with all these flavors tucked into a "wheat beer" package, can you still say you don't like wheat beer?

MONKEY'S UNCLE: ONE MORE WHEAT-FEST BEER...
You may have noticed that we never released a 6th Anniversary Beer last December.  Well, that's because we didn't manage to brew one.  But now we have, and we'll be bottling it up for release during American Craft Beer Week (see below for details and dates).  Some might call it a Wheat Wine - a barleywine brewed with a large amount of wheat in the mash.  Others would claim it's a Weizenbock, because it's fermented with our Hefeweizen yeast strain.  I'll just call it tasty.  At at over 9%, it's have you swinging from tree to tree in no time at all.  Look for it in Mid-May!

GRATITUDE 2010 UPDATE:
Speaking of big bottled beers, if you missed the release of our "Indigo" (aka 2010) release of Gratitude Barleywine at the brewery, I'm sorry to report that as of Feb 19, we no longer have any available.  The release day saw a massive, but very well-behaved turnout (I think we're getting better at putting these on), and we burned through 2/3 of our 1500 bottles on the very first day.  Yikes!  We kept a little back for verticals next year, but you'll have to wait about 9-10 more months before you can get a crack at those, when we release our Violet-waxed 2011 edition, which has yet to be brewed.  There still seems to be an occasional bottle surfacing around town, here and there (Bocktown, D's, Carson St. Deli), so give them a ring if you're looking to get some, and you may be in luck.  And if they're totally out, hopefully they can hook you up with a worthy substitute.

Violet is the end of our spectrum for this beer, and I'm not quite sure what the future will hold for it.  Maybe we'll do a white waxed edition to close it down in style, and we've discussed aging that entire run in a fresh batch of bourbon barrels...but we'll see what we can pull off.  We may have the space for it by then.  But more on that in a bit. (Is there an echo in here?)

CELEBRATE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER WEEK WITH US, MAY 16-22nd
If you didn't watch it before when I sent it out, take 2.25 min out of your day, and check out this video: http://www.craftbeer.com/pages/news-and-events/american-craft-beer-week to get a sense for what Craft Beer Week is all about.  Now, if you've seen the video, and still aren't sure, I'm here to tell you that this is THE WEEK to come out and see what your local Craft Brewers are up to.

We're kicking ACBW off a bit early though, with our 7th edition of our annual Pedal Pale Ale Keg Ride on May 7th....More on that in a bit too.  Then, when the week rolls around, we'll be giving tours, special tastings, and we'll even have a new beer (or two... maybe even three!) to release during the week.  Bring a GOOD FRIEND, bring your mom and dad, bring the kids... bring anyone who needs to see what's brewing in their own backyard.  Or in our case, see what's brewing in an unmarked building in Homewood.  We'd love to show you around.

FOR THE 7th YEAR IN A ROW, THE PEDAL PALE ALE KEG RIDE IS BACK!
Our most popular, and possibly most ridiculous - ridiculously fun, event of the year is just around the corner.  The last year or two, we've struggled with how to pull this off, given the numbers we've been seeing.  And this year, I'm proud to report that with loads of help from our GOOD FRIENDS and event management experts at Venture Outdoors, we've got everything nicely dialed in for this year's ride, and handling 1,000 riders or more will be no big deal.

But of course, if we can get 1,000 people on bikes to help deliver beer, that really is a BIG DEAL!  Not just because it will make for an amazing day, but since it will mean that we've raised some nice really money for our charity...which by the way, we are still firming up here.  And like the Reverse Keg Ride in the Fall, we're going to be totally LEGIT with this ride once again...permits, insurance, and even rolling road closures this time!  The registration page isn't up just yet, nor is the part where you bid on a chance to take one of the keg-pulling delivery spots, but you can still see what it's all about, and block out the date in your calendar.  Go ahead.  Do that now.... we'll wait right here. http://www.eastendbrewing.com/node/916

CLIMATE RIDE APRIL 23rd:
Speaking of bike rides and the environment, in case you can't wait for the Keg Ride in May, you can always sign on to ride in the Mini-Climate Ride on April 23rd.  It's a small tour of Pittsburgh's Green-minded Businesses, and one of the stops is here at the brewery.  Details are here:http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=205860669431690 and I hope to see you here, at the brewery.

BUY OUR TRUCK, SO WE CAN BUY SOME TANKS!
We're selling our old, yellow Ford F100 Pickup Truck.  http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/2311310744.html You know you want this, and yes, I'll throw in some beer too.

THE BIG NEWS LAST: WE'RE MOVING... EVENTUALLY
If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook, (yes we use that now too, kinda), or if you caught an article in the Trib this week, you've probably heard the news that we're working on a sizable expansion here.  A couple weeks ago, we got word that our offer on a nice big building, a new home for EEBC, has been accepted!  So we've been in a mad scramble here, emptying piggy banks and selling cookies door-to-door to raise a little dough to make it happen.  (I'm exaggerating of course.  We just eat all the cookies and report them as sold, like everybody else.)  I'm even too busy to make that dough joke you're thinking about right now.

We've been bursting at the seams here for the last few years, and there's only so many ways we can creatively re-stack our "distribution department" before there's just no place left to go but out.  This new building represents the end of over 3 years of searching, scheming, dreaming, failing, re-searching, re-scheming, re-dreaming, and finally landing on a place that is about perfect for our needs, and well worth the wait.  All it needs is a brewery inside, and we're just the ones to put it there!

So where is this place?  Well, I can't say just yet - not until we've closed on it.  But, I can say that we won't have to change the name of the brewery...so we'll still be in the East End, right where we belong.  And actually, it's not far from where we are now, but in a neighborhood that has BIG PLANS for the future.  We're hoping to get closed before the end of May, and then the real work begins.  At that time, I'll be able to share more details.  LOTS more details about what this will mean for us, and for you too.  Meanwhile, here's the press release that will give you some more particulars:  http://eastendbrewing.com/node/918

WHEW.  Another GOOD BEER News is in the history books, and I'm sure I forgot about 20 important things that should have been a part of it.  But that's probably enough for now.  Thanks for reading, thanks for drinking the beer, and thanks for all of your support over the last 6 years or so.  We're excited to be making such a big next step, and we clearly could not have done it without you.

See you on the Keg Ride, if not sooner!

Cheers,
Scott
