Good Morning GOOD BEER Fans,
Yeah, I know it's technically not morning,
but the sun has just risen on another day of American Craft Beer Week
2011 so to me, it seems like the dawning of a new era for Craft
Beer...and a new era for us here at East End Brewing. (You may have seen
the papers - more on that shortly). So like I say, good morning! Lots
to cover here, before we get to the bit in the subject line, so we'll
get a few updates out of the way, force you to hear about some pesky new
beers you'll see in the weeks ahead, and then we'll cut to the chase
with the main topic of interest. Though I suppose, that's not really
cutting to the chase is it? Off we go...
2011 PEDAL PALE ALE KEG RIDE RESULTS:
The registrations have been tallied, the photo links have been
collected, and (thankfully) the Dr. J costume has been tucked safely
away for another day. The 2011 KegRide is history, but thanks to your
help with this release, we now have the coming summer chock full of
PEDAL PALE ALE, and a couple of great local organizations have a little
brighter future too. Read about where we rode, how many rode, and check
out the photos here:

And of course, look for Pedal Pale Ale on tap at the brewery, the
Growler Shop, and all around town starting... well, a couple weeks ago.
SPEAKING OF BREWERY COLLABORATIONS, NEW BEERS!
Last night, we tapped 2 new beers at Rock Bottom in Homestead. Both
recipes were winning entries in the 2011 T.R.A.S.H. Homebrew
Competition. We brewed Calvin Perilloux's "Tartanic Scottish 60
Shilling Ale" (aka Session Ale #58) and Rock Bottom brewed Brody Nasse's
"Saison Shine", and then swapped a few kegs so we could spread it
around a little better. Look for BOTH of these beers at BOTH Rock
Bottom and East End Brewing during Growler Hours... while supplies
last. Congrats guys - great beers!
THREE MORE BEERS:
Somehow, we've been distracted enough to run completely out of our Big
Bottle offerings a few weeks back. This is the first time this has
happened in about 6 years. So we're over compensating with a few
upcoming bottles, and a bunch of new draft beers in the weeks ahead.
Here's the rundown...
1. Monkey's Uncle: We talked about it last time, and now it's
conditioning in the bottle and waiting for a label from our GOOD FRIEND
Wayno. Look for this great big 10% Wheatwine/Weizenbock to show up in
mid June. And a much belated Happy 6th Anniversary and WheatFest to us!
2. Bigger Hop: You may remember this one from a couple years back. Well
we've reformulated it, changed the brewing process for it, but kept the
same label. We hope to release it in bottles by the end of June.
(Since we already have a label, this happens much quicker.)
3. Session Ale #57: Obstacle Delusion: In light of recent obstacles in
our growth plans, we've come to realize that what can seem like an
insurmountable task (zoning changes) can end up being a whole lot easier
when you talk with the right people. So, we've talked to those people,
gotten their support, tabled our delusions, brewed an amazing little
English Mild using a somewhat rare "Optic Malt", and will ponder our
folly over a nice tasty pint. Look for this one on tap at the brewery
in week or so. I personally can't wait to bring a Growler of this one
home to celebrate.
EEBC TAP LIST GOES MOBILE:
We realize that more than a few of you can't quite keep our Growler Hours in your head, let alone keep track of what beers we're pouring from one week to the next. With some help from the local folks that brought you
BeerBy, we've now got a free East End App (that also works from a plain old computer) to put the latest tap list for both locations, and the hours that we're open at each place in the palm of your hand. Just click
http://eastend.beerby.com/ and save it as a bookmark, and you're all set. I'm updating this tap list weekly, usually on Thursdays or Fridays, so you'll always know what our latest offerings are, and when you can get them. Pretty cool, eh?
IT'S BEEN LIKE 3 DAYS SINCE YOU'VE BEEN IN THE PAPER. WHAT'S WRONG?
Maybe it's been a slow news month in Pittsburgh, maybe the news of our
expansion makes for an interesting read, or maybe our creative way of
raising some funds for the expansion is unique enough to make a good
story? My guess is that it's a combination of all three - plus the fact
that it's American Craft Beer Week, but we're happy for the attention
regardless of the reasons. It's been a great way to tell our story, and
we've gotten a great response.
In fact, the response has been a little overwhelming lately, and I have
to apologize to everyone who called and emailed me about the "GOOD BEER
Investment Program". I've been holding off on sending a reply until we've got
it up and running, but now we're finally ready. And our
GOOD BEER Investment Program is LIVE!
If you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, here's a rundown
of some of the EEBC Press Coverage from the last couple weeks...
- On our
expansion plans
- On our
new location
- On our
"GOOD BEER Investment Program"
- Also on our "GOOD BEER Investment Program", in
video form

Most of this coverage describes the basic idea of what we're looking to
do with this GOOD BEER Investment Program, but for the full story of how
this will work, I hope you'll take a few minutes to read this. It's all here:

Thanks everyone! For helping us come this far, and for helping us to make this next BIG STEP. You're the best GOOD BEER Fans anyone could ask for. Now, I suppose I should go update this week's tap lists!
Cheers,
Scott
