Hello,

I have recently purchased a 29er and have brought it to Michigan. I am in need of speaking with someone who has 29er experience. I and my crew have been attempting to sail it this summer but it is proving quite difficult. We are need of some coaching or at least some direction from someone who could tell us where to find learning resources or places we can look for help.

Please email me at: rob.ed...@gmail.com or contact me by mobile phone at 810.252.1263.

Thank you!

Carol,

Thank you so much!

We are near Ann Arbor, MI which is an hour west of Detroit. We have some small inland lakes that we sometimes use but we have other lakes a few hours away that I think are perfectly made for the 29er. They usually have 10-20 knots of wind and are fairly narrow - maybe 2 miles - so you don't get much sea. The place we sailed last weekend seems perfect for a 29er.

We are not a race team. I'm almost 51 and my girlfriend is 44. I have been sailing for 45 years on anything from Sunfish to Scows to mid sized Hunters to 54 foot blue water cruisers and more. I chose this boat because I wanted to try a high performance boat unlike the typical Lightnings and Interlakes and Lasers that are typically sailed in Michigan. Basically, we just want to have fun. We don't need to finely tune the rig for another 2 knots of speed at this phase. Mostly, we need to learn how to keep the mast pointed at the sky and how to effectively recover when it's not. That part is killing us....figuratively and literally....but we are having fun and we don't discourage easily. :)

That probably gives you an idea of the level of questions we need to ask. I do like to think that if we can become competent we can get our kids sailing the boat and maybe even others in the area. It seems the Class could use an introduction to Michigan as there are so many wonderful places to sail that would be perfect for the boat. Right now I'm pretty sure we have the only 29er in the entire state.

I have read the 29er NA Class site already but I did not know about the 2niner.org site. Thank you! I believe the closest fleet to me might by in Kingston, ON which is about 4 hours from us. If you know anyone there that would be helpful. I might reach out to your son if he would be interested. I'm mentally prepared for the idea of having to travel with the boat to a location or bring someone in so I am expecting to spend some money on the venture. I just need to figure out what options I might have before I jump.

Thank you again so much for your help! Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Rob
