to East Bay Waltz
Next Dance - November 14th, this Saturday
DJ'd music by Bob! Old and new songs, all danceable, all awesome.
The big expermiental dance of the night will be the cross-step
zwiefacher, danced to Pomplamoose's version of My Favorite Things.
It's a normal cross-step waltz, except for the WPx4 starting each
verse, and the WPxN ending. Give it a listen.
What do you do with a cross-step zwiefacher? You can pivot, just like
in a normal zwiefacher. (WPWP feels like "cross-pi-vot-pi-vot, cross-
pi-vot-pi-vot...") You can do an extra non-rotating cross-step for
each P. You can play with grapevines, and with twisting a bunch of
other standard cross-step ideas as well. Be creative, and have fun!
Lessons:
Tonight, Todi teaches Tango! Do you hear a tango played and leave the
floor? Do you imagine yourself dancing the drama and romance of to
tango music but do not know the steps? Well, this class can help. The
basic American-style tango danced in the mid-20th c. will be covered.
The basic can be learned in this one two-hour class. Fun
embellishments will also be covered. Having sacrificed herself for
years on the social dance floor to a variety of orchestras in the arms
of many men, Todi's experience and advice for dancing tango on the
social floor is practical. Additionally, she has been studying
Argentine tango since 2000 in NYC, LA and SF with Vivana Parra, Carlos
Coppelo, Linda Valentino, Cecilia Gonzalez and Christy Cote.... so
expect a little of that discipline to creep into the lesson.
Christophe will be teaching the beginner waltz class.
Both lessons run from 7-9pm. Beginner lessons are always available as
well as an Intermediate class for more advanced dancers.
$12 for both the classes and the dance
$8 for the dance.
Please bring non-marking shoes to dance in. Attire is casual, and
water will be provided.
