Question about the hall property----

CONNECTICUT STATUES REGARDING FARM
PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION

The hall farm hasn't been an active farm for over 25 yrs.
How is it that he only pays a little over $5,000 in property
taxes for two houses and all that land? the farm hasn't
been eligible for the tax exemption for some time now.

If the city council is so interested in tax income why isn't
he taxed on the full value of the property.

If he has been claiming a tax exemption and not eligible,
is he responsible back taxes ?

The council was quick to refer to a state statute about
us not being able to speak. now let them mull over this one.

I don't know what would qualify the property as a "farm" under the statutes, but I can tell you (my property abuts the farm) that when I moved here 25 years ago, he was leasing the land for another farmer's heifers to graze in the summer.  That stopped at least 10 years ago, but someone still comes in at the end of summer to make hay in the field.  Barely active, but there you go.  Someone would have to look into the statutes to see if that activity qualifies.
