Friends,

With Meriden starved for tax revenue, the city is likely to change the
zoning at Hall Farm very soon. This is all part of the recent Master
Plan of Development adopted by the city. There is a Conservation
Commission meeting on Wednesday evening to specifically discuss the
Hall Farm and I would encourage as many to attend this meeting as
possible to ensure the city knows we are still watching these
'developments' closely.

I don't think we can stop sensible development, but we can certainly
do our best to ensure bad decisions are not made out of desperation.
Having said all that from my soapbox, unfortunately my schedule won't
allow me to attend this week :(

Here is the posting with details from the Record-Journal (thanks to
Fran D'Amico for bringing this to our attention):

Meriden - The Conservation Commission will be examining development of
the Hall Farm property on Preston Avenue on Wednesday. The property is
currently undeveloped, but city would like that to change so it can
collect tax revenue from the property.

The commission will study how development would effect the environment
of the area. Its meeting will be in Room 28 of City Hall at 6 p.m.

Dave,
I'll be in Norwalk that night! Can't we do a letter campaign or something
before then?

Christine and all,

Since the Conservation Commission meeting is tomorrow/Wed, I'm don't
think we can do a formal letter writing campaign on such short
notice. Of course, anyone is free to contact commission members to
ensure your opinions are heard. There will also be an important City
Council meeting on Tuesday Apr 20 when the zone change will be
discussed (I will post more details on that separately).
