I love BH, I've been there. Amazing. but we should look at freestylephoto.biz. Their Arista brands are made by major manufacturers. I used to buy their film which was Ilford for a fraction of the cost. If we're supplying chemicals e.g Dektol, D76 their generic brands are the same. I mix my own chemicals and it is half of the cost of even freestyle and it's super easy. There is an initial cost, which would probably be less than buying pre-made stuff Since we're short on cash I'd say we go the homegrown route. I could take this on. Just a thought.
Personally I use PMK for film developing. I've gone through two sets in 10 years-- about $40 a pop. It's the only toxic thing I use. I don't drink it often.
