More context for RTD.

I'm requesting that bus stops be consolidated on 6th Avenue at Clermont, so that the bus stop on Co Boulevard just to the north of 6th Avenue Parkway can be eliminated and broken up into two stops that are safer for riders.

There was a shelter managed by outdoor promotions on CO Boulevard at 6th Avenue Parkway on the northbound side, but it was destroyed by a vehicle.
I reported it several times for not being cleared of snow and ice. I also seem to recall Jonathan Stalls featuring that bus stop covered in snow and ice prior to it being destroyed.

If we put a stop on 6th Avenue Parkway just west of Albion, then we can take the bus stop on Co Boulevard and relocate itself of 6th Avenue Parkway where riders can wait in a safer location. 

I think this will go a long way to improve the safety for riders and ideally increase ridership on those routes. 

Please let me know if you need any additional clarification on this request.

When funding is identified for the bikeway project along 6th Ave Pkwy, a public outreach/input opportunity will be available for you to provide your feedback to the project.  With that being said: the DM: Bikes update that was published recently went through a robust coordination effort among various teams and agencies (DPR in this case) with a strong public outreach component to confirm the recommendations in DM: Bikes as a long-range plan - so I'm guessing there is good reason why a shared use trail was not recommended in the study through the historic parkway.  But, DOTI isn't opposed to exploring other ideas when a project is funded and the outreach phase begins - it will just need to be explored when the project officially is launched at a future date/time when funding is available.

RE: Bus stop relocation - that is under the authority/responsibility of RTD to relocate bus stops.  Someone from their teams will need to provide guidance on your request.

Thank you for the update! Are you able to make sure the Denver Moves Bikes Team is aware of the plans for 6th Ave Pkwy? I believe they had planned a protected bike lane on 6th Ave Pkwy. Thinking that it could better to have a shared-use trail

Thinking that it could better to have a shared-use trail down the center like is planned with Monaco Pkwy.

In the meantime, is there anyone who would have the authority to temporarily relocate one of the bus stops to Clermont so the students were closer?

Thanks for reaching out with your concern.  There is no update from DOTI at this time related to this inquiry since the last correspondence we had last year.  The project continues to remain unfunded among the many priorities Denver/DOTI has under the current budget constraints presented for 2026.  For ease, I pulled the message from the transit teams out of our conversation history:

“Our Citywide Transit Plan, Denver Moves: Transit, recommends RTD Route 6 (including E 6th Ave Pkwy) as a Bus Priority Corridor. This means that DOTI plans to improve the full route with Bus Priority treatments including stop relocation/consolidation; however, this project is not currently funded. I [our transit team] will save these comments for future application and coordination among our partners at RTD.”


Related to your inquiry related to the sidewalk at this location, DOTI's Sidewalk Program is currently working on the development of their Implementation Plan.  Public Outreach will begin soon, in early December.   From the program website: The Sidewalk Implementation Plan will be a guiding document that outlines the program delivery plan over the next six years - answering questions of where, when, and how we will build sidewalks.  


I recommend making sure that you provide your comments for the Sidewalk Program Implementation Plan about transit accessibility and opportunities for schools through that process to help guide the implementation plan to prioritize locations at/around schools for funding.  To be clear, the SRTS Initiative at DOTI is also advocating for this in the Implementation Plan, but having residents' specific concerns noted is also important on for a school-by-school understanding.

We will need a new sidewalk installed, which I believe will be up to DOTI, but can we get a bus stop either added the north side of 6th Avenue Parkway at Clermont or have one relocated to that point?

Students coming from the East do not have paved access from a bus stop to school which I feel is a disservice to them, especially after a snowstorm.

I'm now requesting that RTD Relocate Bus Stop #11524 from it's current location a couple blocks East so that it is just West of Clermont, after the crosswalk.

By relocating this stop, DOTI & DPR can connect it to the new sidewalk installations that otherwise connect from 6th & Clermont up to Hill Middle School.
Here's a short video detailing how both RTD Stops straddle Clermont & neither are connected to it.
Maybe the additional connections can come from the Safe Routes to School budget once RTD relocates the stop or adds a new one.

I forwarded your message to DOTI’s Transit team to review your request, FYI.  While there is a nexus/opportunity here as a result of students using RTD as an option for transportation to get to/from school, I wanted to make sure the team that has done work in this space was aware of your request – they’ll be able to provide a better answer than I would – the transit team would be the group that is best to coordinate any projects/ideas/opportunities alongside our partners at RTD and they’ve done analysis work on bus stop improvements, too.

 

I’ll be in touch when I hear back from the transit group on this inquiry.
