Hello Mayor's office and Denver Auditor O'Brien,
I've been submitting complaints about this issue in City Park for a while and have yet to receive any communication explaining why we must be placing the Porta potties & Dumpsters physically in the roadway on what is designated as a primary bike connection through City Park.
Please compare this section of roadway to the loop around Wash Park.
I feel that this roadway should be treated the same way.
It needs designated lanes for bike commuters due to the high volume of bike traffic during peak times with lanes, the outside for pedestrians going against the bike traffic.
Once these lanes are added, it'll be obvious that the Porta potties and Dumpsters are being placed within one of those lanes.
I would also like to point out that I'm not getting any responses from my council member's office.
I intentionally attempt to visit outside of peak times so that I am not posting videos to social media with people in the background, especially students.
Please visit during the morning commute, during lunch, or during the p.m. p.m. commute and you will see the conflict that is created, especially when the weather is nice.
It's also important to note that the same route is often obstructed or closed during special events in City Park without a detour or any possible way to get around it.
I've personally observed and experienced near collisions in this area, especially as people are avoiding the Porta potties and Dumpsters while walking their dogs. When making your observations, please wait until dog walkers are coming through as bike commuters are trying to pass both directions as well.
Someone is intentionally creating conflict for no reason & this clearly does not happen in Wash Park. There are clearly alternative solutions available and I cannot understand why they're not being utilized instead.
Thank you in advance for addressing these ongoing issues.
Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson
