Could you please add east-cent...@googlegroups.com to your email distribution list?

Also, can you please ask Denver Parks & Rec why we can't adjust the Car-free sections of City Park so that they're centrally connected & consistently closed to vehicles?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Updates from the SCPNA Executive Committee

Dear South City Park Residents,

With spring in full swing, we're excited to see you at the season's first Around the Corner event and later in the month at our 6th annual Earth Day Celebration! March brought so much energy - our neighborhood's final arch lift, our meeting to review recommendations for the South City Park Conservation Overlay (which, ICYMI, was covered in Denverite by a South City Park neighbor!), hearing from Denver's Community Planning and Development team about their initiative, Unlocking Housing Choices, and laying plans for our spring and summer event schedule. If you missed the March Meeting, but want to share your thoughts and feedback on the draft overlay specifications, please remember to review the report and take the survey (both linked on our priorities page, second section) by the 13th! Before we dive into more opportunities to engage, check out these reminders and updates:

  • Have you heard of a community yard sale? Many neighboring communities host group yard sales and interest was brought forward in doing something like this in South City Park! What makes a community yard sale great is several participants, so if you would be interested in participating, reply to this email. Please include your address and any weekends that would NOT work for you to participate this Spring. If we get a large enough group, we will move forward with aligning on a weekend!
  • Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is reminding residents that street sweeping season starts April 1. Check the red and white signs on your block for parking restrictions and move your car on your street sweeping day to avoid a $50 citation.
  • Denver Landmark Preservation is updating the Landmark Preservation Commission (LPC) design review rules and regulations, which were adopted in 2015. You can review the public review draft here. The public review draft will be available for comment until April 7, 2026. Comments can be made via email at land...@denvergov.org.
  • Add shade and greenery to your street! Denver Parks and Recreation and the Denver Office of the City Forester are now accepting applications for free trees
  • Happy (almost) Opening Day, Denver! On Friday, April 3, baseball returns to the Mile High City as the Colorado Rockies host the Philadelphia Phillies at 2:10 p.m. at Coors Field.
  • Curious about proposed passenger rail projects along the Front Range? You are invited to a town hall discussing proposals on April 11th from 10-11:30AM. RSVP and learn more here.
  • Save the date! The City Park Farmer's Market is back on Saturday, May 2nd!
  • If you’re between the ages of 14-21 and have a summer job lined up, you could earn an extra $250 this fall! Through the Mayor’s YouthWorks Initiative, when you complete 100+ hours of work between March 1 – August 14, you could earn a bonus for your commitment to employment over the summer!
  • Senior Colorado residents or surviving spouses can apply for a property tax exemption, provided you meet the requirements. Applications must be postmarked by July 15 to be valid for this year and exemptions are only considered for the year in which you apply, not for previous years - make sure you're renewed for 2026!
  • Looking for an Easter Tradition for your family? The Spring Egg Hunt will be hosted by CHUN on Saturday, April 4, beginning at 2 PM on the Northeast corner of Cheesman Park. Little ones are welcome to come hunt for eggs & treasure. RSVP and learn more here
  • The Laramar Group has begun construction on a 155-unit multifamily community at the site of the former Royal Palace Motel.
  • Denver Police Department District 2 typically offers community meetings (2CAB) every 2nd Wednesday from 6-7:30PM, and the next meeting will be today, April 1st. Doors open at 5PM. Keep an eye on the Community Engagement calendar for details each month.
  • We have discontinued use of our PO Box. If there is anything you need to mail to us, please reach out to southc...@gmail.com for a good mailing address!
  • Follow us on Facebook and Instagram! We regularly post updates from City agencies and community groups, as well as opportunities to engage with neighborhood businesses and schools.

Thank you for your continued support of SCPNA!

Sincerely,

Your Executive Committee
Ellen Roth (President), Mardi Mathers (Vice President), Hilary Steiner (Secretary), and David Scarbeary (Treasurer)

Around the Corner: All is Well inside the All Inn Hotel

Join in the fun for our next event in Around the Corner - a series of social events to support Bluebird District businesses through BRT Construction! We all know that mutual aid starts locally. Around the Corner was designed by the South City Park Neighborhood Association to give neighbors an opportunity to connect with one another and socialize, while also giving them a chance to direct our dollars back into our local economy. Grab a drink for happy hour, bring your family and friends for a hang, or come on your own to connect with other South City Park Neighbors. We'll be happy to see you, however you show up!

On April 11th from 3-5 PM, we'll be at All is Well inside the new All Inn Hotel! Come grab a drink - appetizers* will be on us, compliments of the Around the Corner series. Can't make it on this date? Consider All Is Well to grab a drink with a friend or sit down to a fine dinner at FiNO to test out the coastal tapas menu!

RSVPs are appreciated, but not required: https://forms.gle/9jEfWukYXrNJ1tKL9

*Funding for each event is generously provided by the Bluebird District, and the cap for each event is $200. First come, first served.

How to Support the City Park Bandstand Efforts

We were so sad to learn that the City Park Bandstand — a beloved landmark with roots dating back to the 1920s — is a total loss after an overnight fire last week. Denver Fire is conducting an investigation.

As Historic Dener put it, "For over a century, this site has been more than home to a stage. It's been a gathering place — for free concerts, lazy Sunday afternoons, and the kind of community that makes Denver, Denver." Learn more about the incident from Denverite

Gearing up for their 40th season, City Park Jazz is working with the City on mobile stage options and logistics - they need your support to make it happen. Donate to City Park Jazz.

City Park Friends and Neighbors, in partnership with City Park Alliance, are taking donations to help rebuild the bandstand. In the first week of the campaign, they have raised over $6,000! Donate to the fund to rebuild the bandstand

Save the Date: City Park Day

Undeterred by the bandstand fire, City Park Day will be back to take center stage at our beloved boathouse on May 29th. Partners include City Park Friends & Neighbors, City Park Alliance, SCPNA, Whittier, Greater Park Hill, City Park West, Congress Park, the Victorian Society of Colorado, the District Nine Council Office, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance.

Your City, Your Voice Updates

Last year, Your City, Your Voice asked community for their perspective and ideas on RNOs. This year, they need your feedback on the considerations that will be presented in the report which will help shape the future of the RNO system in Denver.

Join for an open-house to give your ideas, ask questions, and share concerns to help develop future RNO policy. RSVP here!

You can view the full report here. Key takeaways & community-informed considerations begin on page 74.

Replace Your Grass with Native Plants

Water-thirsty Kentucky bluegrass doesn’t fit naturally into Colorado’s dry environment.

It’s often a household’s biggest water user, and removing it helps conserve and protect our precious water resources, especially as Colorado started this year with record-low snowpack, the primary source of our drinking water.

This year, consider an unused area of turf to start your drought-tolerant ColoradoScape.

To help, Denver Water has partnered with Resource Central, a nonprofit in Boulder, to offer a limited number of discounts (up to $750) on 2026 turf removal services for our residential customers. Applications are open now!

Application requirements include:

  • The removal of at least 200 square feet of water-intensive turfgrass.
  • A photo of the area to be transformed.
  • Plans for the new water-wise landscape (artificial turf is not allowed).

Unlocking Housing Choices

If you weren't able to make it to the March SCPNA Meeting to learn more about Unlocking Housing Choices, there are several upcoming meeting options! These are public meetings where community members can learn about proposed zoning code updates to allow more "missing middle" housing in Denver’s residential neighborhoods. These proposed changes would implement adopted plan guidance for expanding missing middle housing citywide with an emphasis on preserving existing structures, adding more attainable units, and ensuring new development is compatible with existing neighborhoods. "Missing Middle" housing refers to small multi-unit developments like triplexes, quadplexes, tandem houses, and cottage courts - all of which exist in South City Park today!

Hi Bryan,

Mailchimp doesn't allow sends to google groups. Many mail managers do not allow this - primarily because it limits users ability to unsubscribe, which breaks user agreements and laws in some cases. If you know of anyone who lives in the neighborhood and wants to subscribe, you can send them to our website!
