Your District 10 Update

Denver residents will soon choose a new voice for our city with the special election to fill a vacant At-Large City Council seat. This seat opened after At-Large Councilmember Sarah Parady resigned for health reasons, leaving Serena Gonzales-Gutiérrez as the sole At-Large member. The winner will serve the remaining eight months of Parady’s term.

Councilman Hinds encourages District 10 residents to pay close attention to this important race. It’s a rare chance to influence citywide leadership that affects all Denver neighborhoods, including ours. When you receive your mail-in ballot this October, look for the At-Large City Council race near the bottom. Take the time to learn about the candidates and their values. This election impacts how our city council represents your priorities.

New Greenhouse Gas Inventory Online Tool

In 2020, Chris voted to create Denver's Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency (CASR) and to send the Climate Protection Fund to voters, who approved it that November. That fund now pays for much of the city's climate work, and the results are starting to show.

CASR's new 2025 Annual Report shows emissions dropped 4.5% from 2024 to 2025, part of a 20% reduction since 2019 and 36% since 2015. Alongside the report, CASR launched a new online tool where you can explore where Denver's emissions come from and how they are trending.

5 New State-Funded Housing Projects Are Coming to Denver

More than 400 affordable homes are coming to Denver, including a project in District 10's Golden Triangle.

On July 21, Governor Jared Polis announced $18.5 million in state support for five affordable housing projects across Denver. The funding comes from Proposition 123, the voter-approved measure that dedicates state income tax revenue to affordable housing. These projects will create homes for families, older adults, and people transitioning out of homelessness.

The Golden Triangle project in District 10 is part of this effort, alongside developments in Montbello, Sun Valley, Sloans Lake, and the former Johnson & Wales University campus.

What's Happening in Denver's Housing Market

Metro Denver's housing market is sending mixed signals. Active listings for single-family homes are down sharply from last year, 14.2% in April, 20.5% in May, and 21.1% in June. Even so, about 12,088 homes were on the market at the end of June, nearly triple the inventory of June 2021, when homes sold in days with multiple offers.

More sellers are also pulling homes off the market and relisting them weeks later, often after overpricing. Redfin's head of economics research says this reflects a tough market rather than a weakening economy: sellers still expect pandemic-era prices while buyers face higher mortgage rates.

Denver to Consider Crackdown on Dirt Bikes and E-Motos on Roads

Chris Hinds is co-leading efforts to make Denver’s streets safer by cracking down on illegal dirt bikes, electric motorcycles, and other off-road vehicles that put riders and neighbors at risk.

Councilmembers Hinds and Kevin Flynn are pushing for a new city ordinance to clearly ban these vehicles on public roads and give police stronger tools to enforce the rules. Denver police Deputy Chief Aaron Sanchez highlights that these vehicles create serious safety hazards for both riders and the public.

New 'Wynkoop Crossing' Pedestrian Bridge to Connect Downtown Denver and Ball Arena

Chris Hinds helped move forward a new pedestrian bridge that will make it easier for District 10 residents and visitors to travel safely between Ball Arena and downtown Denver.

The Denver City Council approved an agreement allowing Kroenke Sports and Entertainment to build this bridge over Speer Boulevard. This bridge will connect Ball Arena, home to the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche, directly to the downtown area, improving access and safety for pedestrians.
