Below is a schedule for the Nevada Falls Hike. It will be either Nevada Falls or Yosemite Falls. As soon as the final destination is confirmed, I will send an email.
Schedule for Saturday April 19, 2014:
- 7:00am: leave Mountain House SHARP. Please BE ON TIME.
- San Ramon/Pleasanton team needs to leave at 6:30. Please email me anyone who is interested, I will include them in the team coming from there, so that they can coordinate their plans.
-
7:45am: breakfast stop at Okadale
- 8:30am: leave Oakdale
-
10:30am: enter Yosemite Valley
- 11:00am: start the hike
-
A round trip back to the base at a moderate rate should get us back around 5:30-6:00.
- At base camp (Curry Village), free hot showers are offered. Just bring your towel.
- We can have dinner either in Curry Village or in Groveland (1 hour outside of Yosemite)
- Head back to the Bay Area
What to expect on this hike:
- First mile is a steady climb but on a paved path.
- At 1 mile point, there is rest stop with drinking water fountains and restrooms.
-
Paved path continues for a bit longer and then turns into granite steps.
- Next comes Mist Trail. This is the mist from Vernal Fall, and you WILL be drenched. It might be a good idea to have a light rain jacket.
- Shortly after, you reach to the top of Vernal Fall. This would be our lunch stop. There are restrooms at this location as well.
- After lunch, we will head towards the top of Nevada Fall.
What to bring:
- Water, water and more water. Keep in mind there is a water fountain only at the first 1 mile stop.
- Lunch
-
Snacks (trail mix, fruits etc)
- A hat to protect from the sun.
- A small hand towel. It's going to be a sweaty hike.
- If possible, bring a light rain jacket.
- I always carry a couple of knee braces (the stretchy kind from a drugstore). This is not necessary, but just in case.
- For those who want to take a shower at Curry Village, bring a bath towel, and change of clothes that can be left in the car.
