I am using ew2mseed to produce mseed files from which I later, after importing to another machine, want to take time slices. Using IRIS's mseed2sac I can get the whole file covering 24 hours - inconvenient.
I've tried in many ways to code the file that is supposed to be drawn using option -l.
The man page chapter SELECTION FILE isn't specific with the details. And I've seed examples with different codes elsewhere.
mseed2sac Version: 2.3
mseed2sac -f 2 -l msd.in -vvv <mseed-file> <out-dir>
msd.in:
#net sta  loc  chan  qual  start             end
IU * * * * 2022,065,10,00,00 2022,065,10,01,00

earthworm_7.8/bin/ew2mseed
run/parameters/ew2mseed.d:
SCNLocSz OSO HGN SG SG 512 STEIM1
SCNLocSz OSO BGN SG SG 512 STEIM1
SCNLocSz OSO HGZ SG SG 512 STEIM1
SCNLocSz OSO HGE SG SG 512 STEIM1

Excerpt, typical ew2mseed log file:
20220518_UTC_07:03:33 updateSingleSCNtimes OSO HGZ SG SG : No errors.
20220518_UTC_07:03:33 updateSingleSCNtimes OSO HGZ SG SG : pinno = 0 tankStarttime = 2022May17  929 11.68; tankEndtime = 2022May18  703 22.67
20220518_UTC_07:03:35 updateSingleSCNtimes OSO HGE SG SG : No errors.
20220518_UTC_07:03:35 updateSingleSCNtimes OSO HGE SG SG : pinno = 0 tankStarttime = 2022May17  929 11.68; tankEndtime = 2022May18  703 22.67
20220518_UTC_07:03:39 updateSingleSCNtimes OSO HGN SG SG : No errors.
20220518_UTC_07:03:39 updateSingleSCNtimes OSO HGN SG SG : pinno = 0 tankStarttime = 2022May17  929 11.68; tankEndtime = 2022May18  703 22.67

If anyone can help me with specifying the applicable parameters for
#net sta  loc  chan  qual  start             end
I'd be grateful.

Hello,

For mseed2sac, the network, station, location, and channel codes, and option quality and time window specified in the file for the `-l` option must match the data in the input file.

Your msd.in:

> #net sta  loc  chan  qual  start             end
> IU * * * * 2022,065,10,00,00 2022,065,10,01,00

is requesting all "IU" network data for a given time window.  Otherwise, the syntax looks correct.

But your ew2mseed configuration and log messages:
> SCNLocSz OSO HGN SG SG 512 STEIM1
...
> 20220518_UTC_07:03:33 updateSingleSCNtimes OSO HGZ SG SG : No errors.

imply that the data you are targeting is from the "SG" network, station "OSO", channels "BH?", and, a little odd but legal, location code "SG".

So I recommend trying a selection line like:

SG * * * * 2022,065,10,00,00 2022,065,10,01,00

If you add some "-v -v" (or -vv) flags mseed2sac will report which input data it is skipping in case there is any confusion on the selections in the file.
