Does anyone know exactly what:
addCompToEvent: unknown component direction for <HOVB.HN1.RE.52>
indicates?  Have numerous messages of these type in gmew.log.

Station info exists in hinv_sta.d:
HOVB  RE  HN1  36 00.9920 114 44.3150W 2970.0     0.00  0.00  0.00  0.00    0.0052
HOVB  RE  HN2  36 00.9920 114 44.3150W 2970.0     0.00  0.00  0.00  0.00    0.0052
HOVB  RE  HNZ  36 00.9920 114 44.3150W 2970.0     0.00  0.00  0.00  0.00    0.0052

& in response directory:
RE.HOVB.HN1.52.sac
RE.HOVB.HN2.52.sac
RE.HOVB.HNZ.52.sac

& data exists in EW waveserver tank:
HOVB.HN1.RE.52.wsv_tnk
HOVB.HN1.RE.52.wsv_tnk-1.inx
HOVB.HN1.RE.52.wsv_tnk-2.inx
HOVB.HN2.RE.52.wsv_tnk
HOVB.HN2.RE.52.wsv_tnk-1.inx
HOVB.HN2.RE.52.wsv_tnk-2.inx
HOVB.HNZ.RE.52.wsv_tnk
HOVB.HNZ.RE.52.wsv_tnk-1.inx
HOVB.HNZ.RE.52.wsv_tnk-2.inx
Could the parameter of maxSta (900) in gmew.d be limiting stations processed?

Regards,
Mark

Mark,

My hunch: since Earthworm has no channel metadata, it deduces the sensor orientation from the SEED channel naming scheme.  It is likely then that only Z, N, and E are recognized in channel names.  Your channels are name 1 and 2.  Therefore, their sensor orientations cannot be deduced.

My guess would be "unknown component direction" means it doesn't know the orientation for the HN1 component.

Interestingly, component with number 2 are being read -HN2 or BH2.
Processing <OK032.HN2.GS.20>
20181010_UTC_10:42:42 Est P:    24.9921
20181010_UTC_10:42:42 Est S:    42.9864
20181010_UTC_10:42:42 addCompToEvent: unknown component direction for <OK032.HN1.GS.20>

However, those with number "1" are all getting the same error.
20181010_UTC_10:42:42 addCompToEvent: unknown component direction for <OK029.HN1.GS.20>
20181010_UTC_10:42:42 addCompToEvent: unknown component direction for <OGNE.BH1.US.00>
20181010_UTC_10:42:42 addCompToEvent: unknown component direction for <MOOW.BH1.IW.00>

Is there something that needs to be adjusted on gmew module?

Yes, it looks like the gmew module may need a ChannelNumberMap option (like binder_ew and localmag has) to signify horizontal components.... We'll open a ticket to add this into the list of tasks. It should be a quick feature addition because gmew was cloned from localmag which now has this feature.

Cheers,

Paul
