Nmake: fatal error U1045: spawn failed : Invalid Argument

Hello,

I'm attempting to compile earthworm 7.9 on a windows 7 system using VS2010 and C++ compiler. When I attempt to create the make_log.txt file I am able to successfully complete all makes up until "making Earthworm modules" where I see the following message:

"Making Earthworm modules"

nt_make_tree archiving  data_exchange  diagnostic_tools  display  grab_bag  reporting  seismic_processing  system_control

NMAKE : fatal error U1045: spawn failed : Invalid argument

Stop.

Searching for the error on google has been largely unhelpful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
