Join us this Saturday for a Forest Exploration at the Middlesex Fells Reservation and experience the woods in late winter. Snow transforms the narrative of the landscape, revealing tracks, movement patterns, and the structure of the subnivean zone that is so often hidden. I do not know what Bill and Joe have planned, but I am especially eager to explore the upper reaches of that subnivean layer, something we have missed for far too many years. As always, the walk weaves natural history, ecology, and close observation, with time to pause and read the landscape carefully.
February is often assumed to be a quiet holding period, yet EwA’s long term records tell a different story. During a February walk, we documented the first marbled salamander larva recorded in the Fells since 1932. Our team documented more than 308 species in the Fells during February alone, showing that life continues even at its most subtle and energy efficient.
Join us to slow down, sharpen your eye, and discover what the forest reveals as winter begins to loosen its grip. |
