You may have noticed a recent flurry of thank-you notes celebrating the many volunteers who collect data across EwA’s ecology projects. We took the time to thank each community individually because every one of them is essential. Their fieldwork makes EwA’s science visible, impactful, and possible. This note is about the people whose contributions are less visible but just as critical. Much of what sustains EwA each year happens quietly, beyond what is seen in the field or reflected in published results. We want to recognize the individuals whose care, time, and commitment make long-term, community-based participatory science possible. Our field leaders and walk guides are the backbone of this work. Week after week, month after month, Laura R., Bill M., Joe M., Kat S., Kathy M., Jennifer C., Sara G., Joanne M., Joanne R., Dunja W., Linda W., and Claire O. lead biodiversity walks, and field sessions. They cultivate careful observation, strong field ethics, and respect for shared habitats. For many participants, these walks are the first step into deeper involvement with EwA, and the consistency and generosity of these leaders create a welcoming pathway into participatory science. We are deeply grateful to our interns, whose contributions are essential and far-reaching. In 2025, Amanda M., Jeanette W., Jaclyn G., and Sophie P. supported field work, and helped turn raw observations into usable and shareable datasets. Their work strengthens EwA’s methods while supporting their own academic and professional growth. This effort is made possible through dedicated mentorship, and we extend special thanks to Kristian D. and Claire O., along with our field leaders, for the many hours spent guiding, advising, and mentoring early-career practitioners. EwA’s work reaches broader audiences thanks to those who steward our stories and digital spaces. In 2025, we thank Mike M. for newsletters, Ashley T. for the EwA Digital Library, Kate D. for themed articles, Melodie I. for EwA PhenoStories, and Dillan P. for advancing the Invasive Flora Patrol dashboard initiative. Their work translates data into narratives and tools that support learning, advocacy, and action. Behind it all, EwA’s board directors and officers provide the structure that allows projects to persist year after year. In 2025, we thank Linda W., James T., Bill M., Kristian D., Joe M., Yvonne L., and Claire O. for stewarding governance, partnerships, fundraising, and long-term strategy. Much of this work happens out of sight, alongside other professional commitments, yet it is essential to the stability of the organization. Finally, we extend our thanks to EwA’s advisors, including Kat S., Kathy M., Jennifer C., and Mike M., whose insight helps maintain scientific rigor, ethical practice, and local relevance. Their guidance, often informal but deeply influential, shapes protocols, interpretations, and new directions for the work we do together. If we have missed someone who plays an important role behind the scenes, we welcome corrections. This acknowledgment is offered with deep appreciation to everyone whose quiet contributions sustain EwA and strengthen our shared work.
