Some of you know that Earthwise Aware runs insect and phenology citizen science projects at the Somerville Community Growing Center (GC). We love this community, and we're very excited to have Paula Jordan joining EwA's coming Virtual Nature Hour (noon time) to talk about her work at GC. Grab lunch and join us!

👤  Guest Speaker: Paula Jordan (Somerville Community Growing Center)

Paula has worked as a naturalist, environmental, farm and nature-based educator for over 20 years, mostly in urban environments. At the Somerville Community Growing Center she works as the Site Coordinator and Children in Nature Initiative Coordinator. Supporting teachers, caregivers and community non-profits in creating sustainable, equitable, and accessible nature-based play and learning opportunities is the focus of her work. During the pandemic, using a clip on macro lens inspired her to slow down and look more closely at plants and insects. She lives in Arlington Mass, loves swimming, growing herbs and flowers, birding, and being in nature with her 6 year old granddaughter.

The Somerville Community Growing Center is much more than a green space, it is where the community grows. Situated on a ¼ acre of gently sloped hillside near bustling Union Square, the high school, and the library, it hosts rich programming including environmental education and cultural performances and offers unique volunteer opportunities. Initiated in 1994, the Center is a model for urban land use and collaboration between city government and local nonprofit and community agencies. This urban oasis was designed and built by local residents and is maintained by volunteers.

See you then!
