Field Encounters with Wasp Nests: Science, Safety, Responsibility

Dear EwA Friend,

We have just released a new EwA article on a question that returns every season: what should we do when we encounter a wasp or hornet nest in the forest?

The piece explores the ecological role of these insects as predators and regulators and explains that adjusting human behavior is often safer and more responsible than destroying wildlife, including wasps and hornets. It also provides practical guidance for leaders and visitors when a nest is located near a trail or activity area.

🐝 Read the full article here.

We invite you to read it and reflect on how it connects with your own field observations. You are welcome to comment in this thread, on the EwA webpage, or on the Trail Report forum, where it is also posted. Please share it within your networks and with fellow naturalists and nature steward organizations.

Field examples, questions, and critical reflections are encouraged. Ongoing dialogue is how we cultivate informed and respectful coexistence.
