Dear EwA Friends,

Show your support for Earthwise Aware (EwA) today. EwA needs it! Here are a few good reasons why.

Earthwise Aware is making the power of grassroots conservation heard this year. This spring, the first evidence of the endangered marbled salamander breeding in the Middlesex Fells since the 1930s was discovered. How did this happen? It was spotted by a new community member at an EwA event and then verified by EwA naturalists and the broader conservation community.

"It's like a needle in a haystack looking for larvae in big vernal pools," said Windmiller [Director of field conservation, Zoo New England]. "I'm stoked that the folks from Earthwise Aware saw the larva." – quoted from the Boston Globe

This September, we were happy to partake in a night search expedition with our colleague from Zoo New England and find four adult marbled salamanders in good health (left/1st photo below).

Recently, when Boston's NPR station, WBUR, reported on the spread of beech leaf disease (2nd/right photo above), its reporters turned to EwA naturalists in the field. Increasingly, when something is happening in the natural world around Boston, EwA is an authoritative source of knowledge and data. We're proud to see the work of our community paying off.

Over the years, EwA has built a vibrant community and collective knowledge base of natural history in the Boston area and beyond. We need your support to provide resources to this community and continue to foster its growth. This Giving Season, please support natural history in the Boston area by donating to EwA.

Thanks!

Community & Scientific Impact

EwA's nature participatory science program is unique in its mission to respond to the dual biodiversity and climate crises while advancing the democratization of science.

Our participatory science program contributes critical information to local, national, and global projects while empowering its participants as citizen scientists. EwA's model is successful because it deeply connects participants to their local natural systems while having a significant scientific impact. EwA bridges genders, generations, and cultures and empowers a broad community by having every participant engaged in the co-creative process of producing ecological knowledge

"I heartily recommend EwA's Introduction to Plant & Wildlife Monitoring in the Middlesex Fells as a path to a more informed appreciation of the life all around us! (...) If you've been wondering how to get involved in the preservation of biodiversity in eastern Massachusetts, I encourage you to participate in EwA's work!" – Don L. (EwA community member)

We empower our communities! EwA bridges age, gender, demographics, professional and cultural backgrounds. Ⓘ Read from our community of volunteers and citizen scientists what EwA brings to their life » here.

EwA looks forward to sustaining and growing its outreach program to serve more community members in 2023. To do that, EwA needs your help! Thank you for your generous donation of $25, $50, or $100 through EwA's Give page (here) or directly by clicking below!

We are grateful for your support.

Sincerely,
