Learning session in mango/cashew grafting on Friday 10 August 9.30 A. M. onwards

Dears,

I call Frederick Noronha as 'Rico' and he says I am a pun-ny man ....  but even I had not thought of the pun on "graft" that Bevinda Collaco picked up on how to get rich. We had a great day and even the rain gods relented to give us a relatively "dry" morning to hold the launch function and begin the learning session in grafting.

Mr. Shrinivas Dempo and the participants in the launch function also saw the air-layers of Tahiti Lemon prepared on 06 July, 2012, by the first interns on the farm [Smita Shirodkar and Anuradha Tiwari from Mumbai]. They have rooted and are ready for separation from the mother plant!

It was a great day!

There will be a learning session on mango and cashew grafting from 09.30 A.M. on Friday 10 August, 2012 and the "Mahamaya Organic Agriculture Learning Center" will be formally launched by Shrinivas Dempo, the Chairman of the Dempo Group of Companies, at a simple function at the Mahamaya Nursery & Agricultural Farm, Varchawada, Dodomarg road, Sal village in Bicholim taluka. 

Nominal fee of Rs.100/- will be charged on this special occasion. Participants should carry their own lunch. Regular public bus service to Sal via Dodomarg is available at Mapusa bus stand at 08.00 A.M. For reservation SMS "Grafting" followed by name of participant to 9822982676. Limited seats on first come, first served basis. Free tour of the farm and replies to your queries at the farm.

Thank you for the kind words.

It was nice interacting with you at the first learning session after the formal launch today of the Mahamaya "Learning Centre" at Sal-Bicholim.

I look forward to working with you on a book about farmers marketing their own produce. Perhaps, Karan Manral, will provide some insights for the book. He does brand management for a living ... and lives on organic food. So does Smita Shirodkar of Earthoholics.

There is one book on that subject by Dr. Tej Partap, now Vice Chancellor of the Sher -i-Kashmir Agriculture University, Srinagar. He is a friend and role model for me.

It was also wonderful to see the great work that you are doing on Organic farming at Mahamaya.

Meeting with Mr Shrinivas Dempo was a bonus and it is good to know an Industrialist who is interested in agriculture. The way I see it then world is heading for a major shortage of good disease free food and in the next 5 years those few who are producing organic food will be the people in demand,
