thanks for making this application!

I will bring it to the water this weekend, so it will get better
exposure there. Observations right now:

- I have a limited version. Obviously there was too little time ( a
couple of hours) between me sending my IMEI and the latest release
(any option in getting the full version for test this weekend???)

- the manual/help is empty. Not good for a release candidate...

- I cannot get a bearing to a waypoint (might be a manual related
issue...)

- As Netherlands I only get a street view map type. I rather would
have a nautical map. How to add that?

- I cannot make a route out of waypoints. This would be helpful,
especially when this is a route which you can follow while sailing.

So far for now

Yeah, we are working on that in the background... it will be included in the final release. This is something we can edit at anytime, whether the app is live or not.

It might be that you are in doors. The option to get guidance will not appear until you get a GPS signal.

Sorry, we do not yet have European maps yet, but we are acquiring them.

This is one of a few top priorities for after the v1.0 launch. We see this as critical, along with POI/tide/weather search, and GPS tracking.

Andrew,

Thanks for commenting.

I do have GPS signal, but have no clue how to obtain guidance (and
what it is.)
I would expect that when I select a waypoint on the map that I would
get a bearing and distance. Also I don't see an option to do such.
Obviously I am mssing something here.

-different topic:
Is the an option when you don't have a GPS fix but having a network
location that most features (including bearing & distance to
waypoints) already work?

GPS tracking as you mentioned will also be useful!

4ft waves today so no boating, but really would like heading up, with option for North up.

I had a brief moment on the water yesterday to play with the app.

I didn't get a bearing to a waypoint. No clue how to get this.

Also, the screen of the device was too dark -- in bright sunlight. I
am new to my phone, and found out later that I could adjust the screen
brightness -- and didn't try this on the water. Direct support for
this from the application (or a shortcut) would have helped me. Also,
choosing a colorscheme which optimizes this will be helpful.
Speaking of that, I expect a night mode also to be helpful for
navigation in nighttime.

Cheers,

Klamer

Thanks for your notes Klamer. A couple notes:

1) A night mode seems to be a common request, and we have that one on our list.

2) You can "Guide to Waypoint" by pressing the menu button on the Waypoint details screen. This menu option only shows up if you have a GPS lock. We are going to work on improving that UI as well, and we will document it in the manual.

Regards,
Andrew

Andrew,

I tried the Guide to Waypoint. I get to see a distance and the
waypoint position -- not a bearing, and not at the same time the
current compass reading. Not my prefered UI,,,

HI Klamer,

I'm sorry, is this what you are seeing: http://earthnc.com/beta/Android-Manual/map-guide.png

The distance and bearing to the place are shown on the first line of the guideview - "33.2 mi 96 E."

Maybe this needs to be more clear? Or show a rotating arrow?

Andrew
