"When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

First Earthdawn Session of the New Year!

Merry Christmas to all my little Earthdawners out there!

I usually hand out Legend Point Awards for the holidays, but this time I will do something a little different.  At this session, you will discover what I am talking about.  Until then, I hope each and everyone on this list has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Passions' Blessings,

Wolf
Frodo: I can't do this Sam.
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding on to Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.

Well, this session went pretty well.  It was short but I think overall it was better to have a short and fun session rather than drag it out any longer.
  • Session Notes:
    • Imaginary Start Time:  7:00PM CST
    • Actual Start Time:  Between 8:30PM CST and 9:00PM CST  Those of you on this list who are familiar with my gaming will note that this is not unusual or unexpected, but frustrating all the same.
    • Christmas Gift:  As a Christmas gift to the Players, each character got a free Attribute Value Increase on an attribute that is listed as an Important Attribute for their Discipline.
    • We picked up where we left off from last session which was in Scrim's Keep after having met Armenion's mother the High Councillor of Scrim's Keep.  She welcomed them and supped them in Scrim's Hall.  The atmosphere and feel that I was going for was like rustic celtic style, but not so much that you got the impression that they were barbarians.  Though some of them appear that way.  Once the niceties were out of the way, Armenion made his farewells and departed with Kivi on his shoulder to see his old comrades-in-arms in the Skirmishers' barracks.  Crystannia left to wander the streets in hopes of finding something new and exciting in the shops.  This left Coimea and Lythander along in the company of Armenion's mother, Keveros, and Ebrai.  Soon after Lythander and Coimea fled the room so as not to continue to listen to one of Keveros' tales.  Armenion found out more about the new captain of the Skirmishers and spoke to his mother privately about his upcoming intentions and about his sister, Ebrai, and her new paramour, Keveros.  Crystannia made the rounds of some of the shops and then returned to her room in Scrim's Hall.  Lythander and Coimea found themselves lost in the streets of Scrim's Keep and eventually found a bar where they eventually got falling down drunk.  Armenion and Kivi shared a bowl of drink with some of Armenion's friends and then made for their rooms so they could get an early start of it.  Crystannia also enjoyed a long overdue rest in a comfortable bed.  Lythander and Coimea made it back to the hall sometime around when the keep was beginning to awaken and the sun beginning to rise in the East.  Needless to say they were in no condition to join Armenion and Kivi as they prepared to head out to Scrim's Ruins.  Armenion, Kivi, and Crystannia rode out to Scrim's Ruins where they established a camp from which they could begin patrolling the area, helping Scrim's Skirmishers defend the area from slavers.  While there they came upon a sea of ribbons tied to many of the old ruins.  The ribbons were of varying color from about 4 to 8 feet long and about 4 to 6 inches wide.  They fluttered and flowed in the breeze and made this part of the ruins appear to be a sea of color.  There they met Celebrindal, an elven archer.  Crystannia approached and asked to become his student and spoke of her friend Coimea, who was sick, but also wished to become his student.  Celebrindal fired an arrow from his bow through the sea of ribbons to a virtually unseen target.  He then fired and split the first arrow.  He then handed his bow and one arrow to Crystannia and challenged her to split his second arrow.  Crystannia fired and was able to split his arrow (Difficulty Number was 21).  Celebrindal then told Crystannia to meet him here the next morning around 6AM.  He then promptly left.  Crystannia and Armenion returned to their base camp in the ruins.  Crystannia left to patrol the perimeter and Armenion and Kivi left to explore more of the ruins and possibly meet the Cathayan that was supposedly camped there.  After some wandering they discovered another campsite and soon met Sukune Togashi, a female human swordmaster from Cathay.  After an interesting scene involving a couple of hours spent in a hot mud bath followed afterwards by a cleansing at the nearby stream, they returned to her camp to speak, when Crystannia arrived on the scene having finish her patrol of the area.  The group minus Sukune returned to their camp towards the latter half of the afternoon and were met by Lythander and Coimea, who had both finally recovered from their previous evening of drinking.  There ensued chaos and confusion (one right on the heels of the other) when Kivi whispered something to Lythander.  Lythander blurted something out about Armenion courting Coimea.  Armenion fled the camp.  Something about bathing naked with some Cathayan woman came out and the comedy ensued.  At this point, the Players had some fun role-playing out the various comments and how after you said them, just didn't sound ... right ...  It was one of the situations where no matter what you said, you only made it worse.  Eventually, people stopped saying anything and left it well enough alone.  Lythander went to find Armenion.  Coimea snapped at Crystannia and Crystannia left.  Coimea went to find Crystannia to apologize.  Armenion and Lythander practiced for a few minutes until Lythander came to the conclusion that he was being used as a means of physical catharsis for Armenion and then they both stopped and went back to camp.  There things seemed to settle down for the most part.  Keveros joined them shortly before supper and much as he always does brought some drink for everyone.  The evening passed uneventfully except for some talk between characters.  The next morning Armenion woke to find himself snuggled up to Lythander.  More comedy ensued though for a briefer amount of time.  Crystannia and Coimea went out to meet Celebrindal at the sea of ribbons.  He did not arrive immediately and so the group started searching for him.  When he appeared, Crystannia and Coimea were outside the sea of ribbons, Lythander was throwing daggers at targets inside the sea of ribbons, Armenion and Kivi were waiting a little ways apart. Celebrindal tied a ribbon around each of their eyes and ordered them to strike the target that he hits with his arrow.  Celebrindal fired into the sea of ribbons and shot a dagger that Lythander had just thrown, as soon as his arrow struck, Crystannia and Coimea fired (Difficulty 21 and -3 Steps) and both managed to strike the dagger.  Celebrindal then agreed to take on both Crystannia and Coimea as students starting that day.
    • Session End Time:  Approximately 12:00AM
