I share a My MAPS of "Average Yield per Square-chain (66ft x 66ft or 1/10th of an acre)" to illustrate a "point file thematic" possible with My Maps...
My Maps is a very powerful extension to Google Earth Pro. It is a KML-centric solution that offers tools to organize complex thematic mappings and re-classifications.
Its generation of KML is as clean as a Complete KML (Keyhole Markup Language, aka, geoXML) for projects I have found other than Google Earth Pro.
You might think there are some really great potentials to build-out the My MAPS cloud design for enterprise, community, or personal purpose. Nope! Sorry, not on the moment and your might be watchful on the outside-chance Google also depreciates this rather nifty "Earth-centric" web-tool? BE AWARE MyMaps has not been extended in many quarters. But what it there, is IMHO a geo-awareness good tool, I wish, had a more endorsing Google team? A bit of an up-lift/refresh that might allow StreetView collections that don't pass Trusted Photographer purpose or have "group" share - just like MyMAPS. The loss of Fusion Tables and Heat Mapping is a loss. You can only regain this via MAPS API now?
One point - MyMaps is NOT and Big Data tool - use Google Earth Enterprise for this. It has a 2000 record limit to its table as well as any particular My MAPS limited to ten tables?

But if you are clever, you can operate and organize the many MAPS modules via KML schema located in your DRIVE and local data tables. Student and Educator license to access MAPS API modules are likely only a petition and a Gmail account. I will leave that to others in the GEEC who will be more expert in sorting Google's Inward/Outward use models. If you are using for Enterprise or value-added, this is in-ward looking and require to be signed up to their Mapping-Meter or cost of inward facing access and use of MAPS and EARTH resources/services?
GEEC should also approach the
Google Earth Out Reach side of Google Earth Earth Enterprise. If this particular Google Group persists and grows in use and sharing the GEEC might, no, will get all sorts of "climate awareness" goodness free Cloud Calculation on Terra-byte++ scaled full-earth modeling that might allow young-minds "in-on" planet-scaled modeling and BIG DATA school projects? You never know what they might reveal?
Self-proof by student climate-geo-scientists that we do have some climatic issues in front of us that only young minds will fully sort out, seems like a first-year goal for a GEEC Sub-meeting somewhere someday soon? Hint-Hint Google Earth Enteprise???
Let me know how this My MAPS share operates on your side - ? Another Story-line Google Solution? Think about My MAPS over lain for illustration via Earth Studio?
