Hi all!
Sharing a great new resource for your classrooms! If you would like weekly updates on new lesson plans, we encourage you to request to join our Google Earth Education Community Facebook Group!
Late last year, the Google Earth Outreach team hosted the Google Earth for Sustainability Education Program (GESEPT) a 3 month capacity building program for teachers in India to train them on using Google’s Geo tools for Climate Education and Awareness, in partnership with TERI University.
As one of the outcomes of the program, we are proud to announce the launch of 100 Sustainability Education Classroom Resources, authored by teachers for teachers that are available for free access at: https://www.terisas.ac.in/lessons/
The classroom resources were put together by teachers participating in the Google Earth for Sustainability Education program- who in a short span of time not only integrated sustainability concepts into subjects they teach: be it French or Math, but also included free Google tools such as Google Earth and My Maps in their daily teaching to make teaching complex topics more fun and interactive in their classrooms.
Some remarkable lesson plans worth mentioning:
‘How Food is sourced’ is a science lesson plan urging students to think about where the food they eat comes from and to start thinking about the impact of their food choices on the environment.
Another interesting example is the lesson plan on ‘Adaptations’ that highlights a simple, experiential method of introducing the concept of adaptability among animal species and the nature of the relationship between natural environments and the creatures that live in them.
We hope this handbook of resources can help more teachers integrate sustainability learning into their teaching! If you have resources of your own making creative use of Google’s Geo tools and would like to share them with more teachers, do send them our way!
