Here is the assignment we will be doing as a welcome back activity next week. We are collecting historical locations in a Google Earth Project.
Google Earth Projects are a way to share information on a map with other Google Users. We will be using Google Earth Projects to create a shared map of important historical places.
Step 1: Open Google Earth in Chrome (if you are using an Apple device you can use Safari but it may be less compatible) http://www.google.com/earth
Step 2: Select a location that is important for the history we are studying this year. The example I selected was the Heian era palace Byodoin known as Phoenix Hall. There is a picture of it in our textbook.
Step 3: Select the Medieval and Early Modern Places Project link in the assignment. {Link removed}
Step 4: Click the new feature button. Search to Add Place.
Step 5: Click Add to Project
Step 6: Click Edit Place
Step 7: Replace the info from Google with your own description
Include the following:
1) The date of construction or when it became important
2) The time period it is associated with
3) 2 important aspects about the place that relate to things we have studied in our class
4) 3 Photos (using the Google Image Search function is fine)
5) Change the Icon
Step 8: Visit 10 places shared by your classmates
