Hi everyone, here to learn about using Google Earth for a team project in Spain. Need to learn about KMZ files and creating my own maps. Looking forward to it.

Hello Marco,
What kind of Earth files are you trying to create?

I am Kathie, totally new to all this but eager to learn. Any advice on where to start?

I’m Suzanne. I teach K-4 science and am looking for ways to use Google Earth to supplement my distance learning program. I’ve explored Google Earth some, but totally new to creating assignments/activities for my younger students.

Be well, everyone!

KMZ is a file extension for a placemark file used by Google Earth. KMZ stands for Keyhole Markup language Zipped. It is a compressed version of a KML (Keyhole Markup Language) file. Keyhole was the founding company of the Earth Viewer software that Google Earth was built upon.

+Marco,

Thanks for the information...The Earth Outreach Team as a good article on how/why to use .kmz file here. https://www.google.com/earth/outreach/learn/packaging-content-in-a-kmz-file/
What are you creating?

+Kathie
Here is a great place to start when exploring Google Geo Tools: https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/earth/education/
National Geographic also has a page set up for some of the Voyager Stories in Google Earth. https://www.nationalgeographic.org/education/google-earth/
Feel free to look through my blog https://geteach.com/blog/ . Most of the post are geared for my high school students, but there is something in there for everyone at varying levels of their Google Geo Tools journey.
Donnie's Resources site's page  is also a great place to start https://sites.google.com/mrpiercey.com/resources/geo
