Hi Everyone!

So thankful to be part of this great community as I see Google has truly been a force in building valuable resources in developing Global Competencies with our students and beyond. My name is Sandra Chow and I'm the Director of Innovative Learning at a Private Bilingual Non-for-profit school in Beijing, China called Keystone Academy (that's a mouthful).  My favourite Geo tool really is just Google Maps

It's the tool I go to ALL the time, and that is the most practical for everyday life. I honestly don't know what I'd do if I didn't have Google Maps. I mean I do remember fondly the days of flipping through my City map book every time I reached the end of the page while driving and how smart I felt when I knew how to skip to the right page when it went vertical, but really...I don't miss those days at all. And truly it's reduced a lot of navigation fights between me and my husband and hours of wondering where I am on a map.

Looking forward to connecting through the community!

Sandra

Hi All!

Kim here! I’m in the midst of my 22nd year working in education! Formerly a tech integration teacher/coach/do a bit of everything tech related at a school/ in a K-8 school, and before that an elementary classroom teacher. For the past 12 years I’ve shifted to working with educators in a professional development role, leading workshops & trainings with varying educational technologies, (Google Geo being one of my favorites), and traveling all over the place.

Currently the lead for the western region for the Google Earth Education Experts and co-author of the Bring the World to Your Classroom Using Google Geo Tools book.

Favorite Google Geo tool, that’s tough!!! I’m with Sandra on Google Maps for everyday use and getting me from
A to B to C and beyond. A close second is My Maps for creation of all kinds of maps!

When I’m not on land I can usually be found scuba diving somewhere in the world. Looking forward to some adventures later this year!

Happy to be here learning and sharing with everyone! 🙌

Kim :)

Hello!

I'm Steven from Jakarta, Indonesia. I had been teaching Social Studies & ICT for 7 years and now I am currently a lead coach at REFO, an EdTech training startup based in Jakarta. My favorite Geo tools is Google Earth. Love the voyager part as you can uncover 360 images, stories, quiz, and adventures to travel around the world. Additionally, it's super accessible both on web and mobile device. It's been super exciting year to work with earthmazing educators in Indonesia to bring exploration to the next level with Geo tools.

Check out the recap of our workshops here!

What a great group of people!

Hello all,
My name is Josh Williams and I have been teaching high school social studies in Austin for the past 13 years...I think. I am a bit of a workaholic, so when I am not teaching I am creating something with geo-tools for the classroom. I really enjoy working with educators on integrating Google Geo in their learning environments. My favorite Google Geo tools include working with the Maps API and Google Earth; really enjoy mashing the two together. I also enjoy teaching with QGIS and ArcGIS. Can't wait to learn and share within this community!

Hello friends!

My name is Diane Main, and I live in the San Jose, California area, quite close to Google HQ. I am originally from New Jersey, very close to New York City, and I have been teaching for over 25 years. (Clearly, I began my career at age 12.) For the past seven years, I have been the Director of Learning, Innovation and Design (9-12) at The Harker School in San Jose. I still get to teach and have an advisory group, but most of my job is coming alongside teachers when they want to try something new in their teaching, whether it involves technology or not. I've been pushing Google Geo Tools on them to the point that they know it's a big thing to me.

I've been blessed to be a part of the Geo Education users community and team through all its iterations, and I am excited to see the truly global community that has grown up around these amazing tools. I've loved globes and maps since childhood, and I love being a part of a group of educators who love them as much as I do.

Hello all,

My name is Jerome Burg, I live about 40 miles SSW of the Mountain View Googleplex. I taught high school English for (mumble, mumble) years. I was a participant in the very first iteration of what was then called Google Certified Teachers. At that first iteration I saw that lines could be added to Google Earth Pro and within seconds the seeds of the Google Lit Trips project sprouted.

I've been associated with every iteration of what is presently called the Google Earth Education Expert (GE3) advisory group. My favorite Geo tool is Google Earth for Web.

Absolutely love traveling, virtually or otherwise, where I was recently photobombed in Switzerland!

Looking forward to sharing a love of the land and its stories with this great group.

Hi everyone! My name is Isabella MacQuarrie, and I am a Learning Support Coordinator in the beautiful Cariboo/Chilcotin school  district in the central interior of British Columbia, Canada. I have been exploring GeoTools as a way to bring the world to students in our rural and remote schools. Tied to that, I was awarded a grant though NG to purchase a set of VR headsets as as part of a Google Expeditions kit, to explore the the use of VR to allow students exposure to places they may never get to visit in the real world. This year, we have morphed everything together to create a project called #Chilcotin360, which has students in our remote and rural communities using 360 degree cameras to capture street view images of their communities, and create VR tours using Google tour creator. We are just getting started, but you can follow our journey at: https://sites.google.com/view/chilcotin-360/about or find us on twitter at: @Chilcotin360

Hi - I'm a Geographer and early adopter of Google Earth - Dennis Reinhardt was the Google Education person at the time - I got some funding from the Royal Geographical Society to write a user guide for GE and the blog is still up - here's the early posts https://googlearthusersguide.blogspot.com/2006/ - later worked on some resources for Google World Wonders project, and also wrote some Google Expeditions VR stuff and worked on a research project on VR with the Open University in the UK.
Did a little input to a GeoTeacher event in Dublin some years back, and continue to use Google Drive and other resources on a daily basis. Still a fan of Google Earth Pro over the new online GE. Find my stuff online by searching for @GeoBlogs. Good to meet you all.

Good Morning! This is Katie from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I am a high school library media specialist. I am excited to be attending a workshop this summer to help with my school district’s upcoming 1:1 initiative, so I’m sure I will be asking for lots of advice from the Google communities! My favorite Geo tool is the Street View app. Even though I’ve been doing them for years, virtual field trips are still so engaging for my HS students!

Greetings from the lovely Blue Ridge Mountains and Cville! I am moving to a new role in higher ed next week after 21 years teaching MS geography and history and 10 years as a K-12 SS specialist. I will be working with the Digital Scholarship Lab at the University of Richmond in central Virginia.  Part of my new role is to create content in support of the digital tools created here, including our online atlas, American Panorama !!  I am also the co-coordinator of the VA Geographic Alliance and we are working on a new state atlas for K-8 which will include interactive maps using ArcGIS online.  Lots of great work going on here in VA and love to collaborate.

I'm Jim Bentley, a 5th-grade elementary educator near Sacramento, California. In addition to teaching, I'm a National Geographic Fellow and Explorer with a Planetary Stewards Grant. My students and I are mapping how plastic moves from suburb to sea so that we can tackle a driving question: How can we reduce plastic entering our oceans?

I'm excited to learn more about Google's assortment of geospatial tools and how I can use them with students. I've spent time with Esri tools (Survey123, Story Maps, Map Apps) and am ready to better understand Google's suite of tools.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Susan Zoë.  I am a geometry teacher, and creator of The Mindful Techducator: https://mindfulteched.com/
I love the idea of using Google Earth in geometry, as well as a tech integrator to connect a-where-ness.  I think the degrees, and minutes on a sphere are really interesting to discuss with students in geometry.  I reside near Philadelphia at the moment, but enjoy doing a TON of travelling to get into the world when I can, and work with the Indigenous Math Circles camps in the summers - this would be a cool connect.
Thank you,
Susan
