Subject: FW: The Vote at the RIBA today on the IAUA

Great news to report. The Vote at Council for the RIBA to support suspension of the IAUA (Israeli Association of United Architects) was carried today by 23 votes to 16 against, with 10 abstentions. This is a landmark event which took the RIBA by surprise and seemed touch and go after the debate.

Please see the attached Press Release for details. BD will be doing a detailed report of the debate –since I was excluded from being allowed to make a presentation at the debate –even though APJP had worked over the years to get it motivated to Council. A team of APJP and Council members worked with  President Angela Brady who courageously insisted on getting the Motion tabled –so great kudos to her. She insisted on including my speech with the papers (see attached.)

There was an attempt by a group of pro-Israeli architects called “Constructive Engagement” to influence the vote with an email to all Councillors, calling it misguided, discriminatory against Israeli architects –we should blame the Israeli Government and not them –and what about China etc but fortunately the vote was carried. The 26 signatories tried to get admitted to the debate and were furious they were not allowed in.

We now have to get the UIA to take this up at various meetings of their officials, and hopefully get the UIA to complete the suspension of the IAUA. With the RIBA’s backing this will get other member countries to give it strong support.

Still delighted!

Abe
