Letter art is traditionally described as an image or piece of art that is comprised of letters, or that uses letters as a main component. You may be thinking that letters as an artistic element sound boring—letters belong in words on paper, and not in a frame on the wall, right? However, you couldn't be more wrong!

When a piece of name art is made of something that plays a very important part in the way that we communicate with each other, then the art takes on new meaning. Letter art combines the emotions that go along with experiencing the imagery of a piece that speaks to us, with words that actually speak to us. When the right image is created through the careful composition of a word or phrase, the message told to us by the text is amplified by the feelings behind the images that are produced. The right piece of letter art tells a story, both verbally and visually, and creates a bold statement within its frame whose message will linger in the mind and make an impact on those who view it.

The world around us is a beautiful and mystical place, one which can never be completely explored, and is full of the unknown. Sometimes, it takes a deeper look than what is seen on the surface to truly observe it, and to see the art that is hidden in everyday things. Letter photography, which examines letters of the alphabet in places where they exist unintentionally, is one result of taking that deeper look.

You wouldn't expect to find the letters of our language in places such as tree branches, river stones, bridges, or an elegant iron fence, but the goal behind this process is to look beyond what an object presents itself as to see a secondary meaning and bring them to focus for others to see. Once the letters have been revealed by a skilled photographer, they're so obvious that we often wonder why we didn't see them before! The awesome effect of this discovery is what makes art created with letter photography so inspiring and interesting to look at, and it also makes the art very diverse—after all, there are an untold number of places that these letters could be hiding.

Thoughts? We've had nothing but good feedback over the past year, with many sending in photos and loving the art. Would love to hear from you!

I've seen this before and really enjoy the letter art, or name art. Letter photography is something I'd like to get myself into once I have the time. Nice to see an easy way to get this rolling without having to do anything but pick letters! :)

Thanks!

I really like the idea of letter photography when it's done beautifully. Depending on the interior design of a home, these could really help the place stand out.
