Hi All,

Well...the reason I had so much trouble finding those gravestone photos was that they weren't in the photo box! I had a crack at cleaning out the bookcase today and there they were, neatly filed with some other genealogical odds and ends.

These pictures were taken around 1999 at Moffet. Unfortunately the text on the stones are not very legible on most of them, but I've uploaded the three best ones to the Files area. They are rather sad stories.

The texts are as follows:

======================================
William Earsman family grave Moffet.jpg
In MEMORY of
Agness daughter of William Earsman
who died the 24th August 1853 aged
2 years and 6 months. John his son
died 18th June 1857 aged 10 years and 9 months.
Walter his son who was accidentally drowned
in Kennel water on the 15th May 1860 aged 15
years.  The above William Earsman who died
13th August 1893 aged 74 years.  And his wife
Jemima Paisely, who died 18th April 1898, aged 78
years. Also Mary, eldest daughter of the above
who died 17th April 1923 aged 78 years.

Walter Earsman family grave Moffet.jpg
In MEMORY of
John Earsman son of Walter Earsman
in Moffat who died 25 June 1822
aged 9 years.  Also John Earsman his son
who died 8 Oct. 1824 aged 26 months.
Also Adam Earsman his Son who died
7th July 1846 aged 70 years.
Agnes Denholm his wife died 29th May
1861 aged 74 years.  Jane their daughter
died 7th Nov 1897.

James Earseman infant grave Moffet.jpg
IN MEMORY OF
James Earseman, son of James
Earseman in Moffat, who died 28th
Sept. 1800: aged 18 months

=======================================

I'll try to decipher the others and post them soon. I can hardly read them on the original prints, so they'll be near impossible once their scanned!

Hello Barry,

Thanks for sharing the photos of the gravestones.

I was going to ask you about the name Earfeman (on James's gravestone)
- is that a variation on the Earsman name? I've not see it before.

Its good to see some of the pieces of the Earsman- puzzle coming
together.

I have a few more photos of people on the tree which i'll scan and get
up on the group.

Cheers for now,

Ewan

Hi Ewan,

I believe that the 'f' is actually a stylised 's' that was popular at that time, so the name is actually 'Earseman'.

Look forward to seeing more photos!

Regards,
Barry

Thanks for that Barry, I didn't know about the F's and the S's.

Weather in Edinburgh is grey, raining and blowing a fair wind! Hope
it's better where you are,

Cheers for now,

Ewan
