The MSFS traffic lands in the middle of the runway, a regression introduced in a SU and never addressed. I use AIFlow as a separate exe running to help stop that. You can watch it literally wrestle with the MSFS AI bug to try to put the aircraft down correctly.
In VR I use the OpenXR Toolkit to implement fixed foveated rendering to help performance, as VR has not been updated for at least a year now and it provides important functions as a free 3rd party helper. Nearly everything it does would be efficient if implemented in the sim itself.
The VR panels are bugged in that a recent SU introduced a regression that scales them incorrectly making the labels too small. Things like VSR (for vPilot) broke in SU12 and it was never addressed again.
With the upcoming MSFS 2024 and the team getting bigger then this is some feedback to perhaps try to readdress the balance between working on new features and content versus going back and fixing regressions in 2020? It is a hard balance and MSFS is a great sim, but it is developing a reputation for having poor quality updates. As I previously wrote MSFS is a challenging title to get right, but I think there is a pattern emerging of just letting things slide, and MSFS 2024 is probably going to make that worse.
If a bug or regression is found in a SU or AAU and it is marginal on if to release or not, do not release. Hold it for testing longer and miss the date. The date and releases are important, but then so is the impression of quality of the experience.
Seems rather late in the day to post this imo. Asobo have already said that they were on a learning curve with the software and 2024 is mostly about fixes a lot of issues. You can bet your house that any bugs that are long standing in 2020 will be highlighted in 2024 very early on.
Wait for reviews on 2024 or try to get on the beta programme.
What I want from a flight sim is the basics done right and a relatively stable platform to build from.
The third party developers can be the ones to add the extra flourish and make the sim go from being very good to truly excellent.
This sim is so strange. I flew multiple flights today. First from Memphis to Greenville MS and then from Houston TX to San Antonio TX and then from Nelson New Zealand westward and never saw any issues with ground scenery. Im in southeast US ifthat helps solve the mystery.
Every time anything changes or a new update (no matter how minor) is downloaded MSFS becomes unplayable until several hours are spent finding the new combination of settings or tweaks that allow it to function again.
This consists of things like, but not limited to:
one of the biggest issues is driver updates, specifically (although not limited to) Nvidia.
Something to remember to do is that every time you update you graphics card software, you should also clear your windows shader cache (as below). Hopefully this helps some people.
What is supplied may be sufficient for the average player to get some idea that some progress has been made, but for anyone trying to develop a stable asset, what is really needed is far more Technical detail of what has changed, in order to cut done in the resulting HOURS/DAYS of re-testing following an unknown change.
Fully agree. I spend more time trying to fix things and make it work than flying. It is an absolute nightmare and often I wonder if I should just stick with my previous sim, which is less visually appealing but it works and flight models are extremely accurate. This evening i spent 3.5 hours on the sim, flying maybe 35 minutes. Map window disappears when i try to drag it to my 2nd monitor, the Volocopter and ATR that just stay dark and do not work. A continuous trial and error approach to see if it works. Useless.
I still cant get my head around the fact that some users experience all these issues as demonstrated
by this fustrated post, while others like myself run a 4K Direct x12 simulator with a consistent FPS of around 50 without any issues., smooth all the way in Ultra and High.
I feel that only a deeply comparison database will throw up the answers.
But, and I dont know if this is important; I do never add add on scenery, never change any CFG files and never buy planes or add ons outside the MP. (not that the latter is necessarily always safe).
I have never had a second thought about taking NVidia driver updates and they have never given me any issues.
It seems to be the one of the great outstanding mystery of this SIM.
I use Spacedesk to run a second breakout tablet monitor and found that unless you put the Map window in window mode it wont drag across. But I now run LittleNavMap permanently on the tablet.

I am afraid of updates as always something get broken. Dont fully understand how this works as patches should fix issues not create new ones. Last time I joined a beta has issues coming out, my PC became totally unusable after. Luckily a system restore got me back without a Windows re-install. Its a very frustrating experience all in all.
From my personal experience of the software industry lack of or inadequate documentation is one of the biggest failures in any project. I have known plenty of programmers that view doing documentation as tedious and boring and the better managed projects employ technical writers. Definitely not something to skimp on.
I agree and have been saying this for a long time. Most issues are down to individual home setup and even components.
Crashes in BETAs obviously need supported but in normal use it always pays to first think 'what have I changed/added/tweeked recently.
Even just adding components to a PC like upgrading memory or GPU can have unpredictable results.
But in terms of SIM software from MS we all run the same. But as you rightly indicate we might all see differt results.
I've experienced a similar issue with ATC communication and I understand how frustrating it can be when ATC abruptly stops in the middle of a flight. It appears to be a common issue among some Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 users. Allow me to provide you with a few suggestions that might help resolve this problem.
I hope one of these suggestions helps you resolve the issue with ATC stopping midway through your flights. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, don't hesitate to ask. We're all here to help and share our passion for flight simulation. Happy flying!
MS/Asobo is doing nothing to fix this issue which is getting worse. I lose ATC on EVERY flight now. I have a stable 1.5gb connection. Please see this topic and vote. -hear-atc-instructions-and-other-aircraft-suddenly-while-ai-copilot-still-responds/418969
Everything was working okay for weeks and then yesterday all I can see in the ATC panel his text messages I am not getting any sound from ATC just a clicking noise are you an animated the first two crew first officer and Raas pro.
i dont use a flight plan and i dont use vatsim or atc beyond all is standard.
what has happened need help plz

I am quite happy stopping the single prop engine, with M + -, but how on earth (In FS2004) do you spool down and stop the multi-props and jets. I am flying the superb DeHavilland Dash 7 and after parking, cannot stop the engines. Please help....
Hey all,I have a problem with flying online. I'd downloaded Vatsim and Squawkbox and I all ready have Flight Simulator 2004. Problem I have is that when I select a flight, and was at the gate wanted to take off. The ATC wasn't responding back to me wh...
When i start a new IFR flight plan, i first make the IFR clearance to ATC.ATC will answer me what attitude, departure frequency and a code. I readback to ATC. Then ATC have no respond to me. In ATC message box, There are no any choice for me to choo...
Morning all,New player here, only just discover FSX:SE wow what a great pastime. So much to learn.I see up a flight plan to go from Lyon to Luton.Took off, with ATC and followed ATC directions all going well. Then turned on autopilot to foll...
If you use the default ATC you've probably experienced this at some time - it works perfectly well and then it suddenly goes silent and you can only read the messages in the ATC window and hear your own pilot or co-pilot's replies.
Sound issues like this in earlier sims have usually been due to the CPU becoming overloaded, so careful adjustment of graphics settings and FPS limits were the only cure. This certainly helps in MSFS, but it's not a complete cure so most people report it to Zendesk as a bug.
I think I may have found a cure which is nothing to do with MSFS itself, but the Windows Sounds settings. My PC has an onboard Creative Soundblaster chip which I've set as the default sound device in Windows and in MSFS. I also have an nVidia GTX2060 graphics card and the nVidia drivers always include sound drivers for my Acer monitor, which doesn't even have built-in speakers. I wondered whether MSFS was getting confused about which device to use when ATC sound stopped working, so I disabled all the NVIDIA High Definition Audio devices in my Sounds options window:
Since disabling all other audio devices except the default, I have completed several 2 and 3 hour flights with ATC working perfectly for the entire flight - I'd be very interested to know if this also works for you.
