Ken and Larken:
I offered to try to connect you with some other people who have been interested in Bike-Kitchen, RE-Bike, Earn-a-bike, etc.
Here’s what I could get done today… some emails, etc.
Everyone else:
Larken, new to San Diego from NYC, and Ken, of Bikes de Pueblo – local bike-kitchen type operation, are eager to expand the Bike Kitchen/Earn-a-bike/ReBike concept in San Diego.
So, GET TOGETHER, work out a proposal and submit to the SDCBC before the March 23rd meeting, maybe a week in advance. Or do something else to make these things happen in San Diego.

ReBike was trademarked by Huffy in 2000 - that trademark has expired according to the US Patent and Trademark office. It used to be for a recumbent bicycle.
Judging from the fact that the website address is no longer active, I think the name is probably free and clear.
It could be RE-ally fun. RE-ally cool.
RE-ally annoying. ![]()
Rework. Replay. ReBike!
I think it's a good name, and if everyone else likes it, maybe it's the name for us.

co-op law
I think that Re-Bike San Diego or San Diego Re-Bike is a really great
name! The reason why I like co-op so much is because it clearly explains what
we are doing and is very inviting for potential donors and members. Re-Bike
certainly does that also.
On another note I sent the Inquiry letter back requesting $75,000:
After our latest committee discussions we have revisited the budget and we are seeking a grant from the Jacobs Family Foundation in the amount of $75,000.00. This would cover one year's rent (Bryco building warehouse space), utilities and insurance plus the build out of the space, startup equipment (tools and consumables) and partial payroll for key staff and mechanics.
Have a great day
David

Hi All,
I found an excellent resource about co-ops on the web If you can stay
awake to read it) - http://www.cooperatives.ucdavis.edu/reports/vanbaldwin/complete.pdf
Basically, if you incorporate as a co-op, you can't be a non-profit.
If you don't incorporate as a co-op, you can't use the word 'co-op' or
'cooperative' in the name of the entity.
I think, for the purposes of grant seeking and operation, working
under the umbrella of the Bicycle Coalition non-profit, then at some
point potentially moving to a separate non-profit would work best.
Which means we can't call it a co-op.
We need a name. Here's some brainstorming (most of which is pretty
lame, but I'm hoping will spark some creativity in others...) -
The Bike Hub and The Bike Garage are both names of bike shops or co-
ops in the country, although not in San Diego. Wonderbikes is not
a
name of a shop anywhere on the net, although by itself it isn't quite
descriptive enough, and David C isn't keen on it. ![]()
The Recyclery is used all over the country for co-ops.
The Bike Kitchen is in LA. The Bike Church is in Davis and Santa
Cruz.
ComBike is the name of an event in France?
ReBike is a club in Minnesota
Maybe we get Jewish Family Services to give us a grant and we call it
the Bike Kibbutz?
Bike Den (shop in Tuscon?)
Bike Bar (shop in Australia. Probably too alcoholic sounding for a
kid's earn a bike program...)?
Bike Afterlife?
Bike Circle?
Bike Guild?
Bike Rotisserie?
Cook a Bike?
Wheel Together?
Bike Village (google this one for some interesting connotations of
Village Bike)
Bike'a'chino?
Bike Bitz
(yes, they get worse and worse, don't they?)
Bike Shelter
Bike Shed (shops in UK?)
BikeYard? (several motorcycle shops named this)
Ok, I'm out. You guys let me know what you think of these, or any
others you have thought of...
Kathy

How great it would be to breath some life into this project again. I have a basement full of bikes and have put 3 kids through the program and am happy to say that their bikes have not fallen apart yet!
Let me know what I can do to help.

So, how’d it go? What’s next? How may I help?
An article in the SDCBC ChainGuard newsletter?
Referral on the SDCBC web site?
?

A fellow, I think the name is Pedro, from Juvenile Hall has offered to donate 10 bikes – I know nothing about him, Juvi or the bikes… just got a hard to hear voice-mail message…
Please contact him on my behalf/SDCBC and earn-a-bike/bikes-de-pueblo and if the bikes are something we/you can use and/or sell or? Go get ‘em!
I could provide a tax donation letter if he/they want. I’d need some estimate of the value of the bikes and to whom to make the letter to.
His number is either 858 or 619 area code; 694-4755.
Good luck.
Jim: Great I will follow up with him tomorrow. We love 10 free bikes!:) LL
I have a small pickup truck I use for hauling stuff… like a bunch of bikes.
I as interim SDCBC ExecDir consider that your accepting donated bikes for clean up and sale or donation to benefit the program is ok…
Funds, if any, should likely best be handled through the SDCBC. Julie Hocking is the Treasurer and could handle deposits and, with authorization, payouts for expenses, etc.
More can happen when/if Earn-a-Bike/Bikes-de-Pueblo establishes an organization – consensus works, but someone needs to be able/authorized to “sign the checks”/authorize expenses reimbursement, purchases, actions, etc. Ok?
