I am sorry that this is such short notice, but Jessie Stewart from McMillian has invited us to walk thru the warehouse at 13th and K. at 9:00 or 9:30 (I am waiting to hear from her on an exact time.) I will let everyone know as soon as I hear the specifics!

I just got off the phone with Jessie and she is super sick. she wanted to appoligize for not getting back to us and she prommised that she would work something out for us either Friday or Monday. I will let you know as soon as I can what happens.

This past weekend I stopped by Mission Bay and spoke with a organization focused on under privileged youth called San Diego Veloyouth.  Tanya Landry, co-founder, 619 993-8565 ta...@qolc.com was the person I met.  She was very interested in our project and possibly how we could share resources and or ideas.  Their program is designed to help get kids off the streets and into track cycling with the use of private and public funding. 

 

Please add this to our list of contacts and someone we should be following up with.

Junior Track Classes
Free Classes for Kids!

The San Diego Velodrome Association offers free track riding classes for kids ages 12-18.  Track bikes are provided.   To participate you must be tall enough to fit on one of our bikes. 

Classes are offered on Thursday afternoons starting the first week in April and run through October. Beginning riders start on the first Thursday of each month.

All riders should wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes.  Please bring a water bottle, sweater and your bike helmet.  If you don’t have a helmet, one will be provided for use during the class.  All of the pedals on our bikes have toe clips and straps.  All riders will use this pedal system during classes.

donated stuff left over unsold from the swap meet for the program?

Yes, the group has sponsorship from PSI World, San Diego Velodrome Association, Big Ring Racing and National City Middle School.

 

Tanya was very interested in what will be offer via our program and have been looking for some place to refer kids/parents to for additional resources, help and education. 

 

They are presently working on their non-profit status but have filed the paperwork and think it will be completed in the next few months.

 

A sit down with them might be a good step to better explain our program, hear about theirs and discuss ways to us both to promote each others cause.

We are very close to having a garage size storage facility. I was
told last Sunday that there was nothing known standing in the way of
the final approval - but - we still don't have it. I'm optimistic.

Guys I have not herd from Jessie and now Jennifer and I are out of the country till the 12th of April. We were not expecting to leave until Wednesday and were surprised to find out Monday evening that we leave Tuesday bright and early. I am sorry to not have shot out an email.

 

Anyway, if she emails or calls I will still get it and I will send an email to you all and have her call you Kathy, also feel free to try and reach her yourself.

Road Warrior class I taught last month...
The group I spoke to at Earthfair was mostly on fixies or single
