Dear active transportation advocates and leaders of City Heights,
In case you have not heard yet, it is with great pleasure to inform you that Mayor Bob Filner announced this past Monday that San Diego will host our very own Ciclovia/Open Streets event!
The event will be called CicloSDias and will be held on Sunday, August 18. The route will start in City Heights at Park De La Cruz just south-west of Cherokee Point Elementary School!
From Park De La Cruz it will head west down Wightman St, left onto Landis St over the I-805, then right on Ray St to connect to North Park Way and then turn left on 30th St. The route will then continue down 30th St all the way to K St. This two-way route will be car-free and open to families, pedestrians, cyclists, skaters, and all non-motorized forms of transportation from 10am to 4pm. The event will be free and open to all people of all ages and abilities.
Los Angeles has already organized four CicLAvia events (pictured above and below) which are immensely popular, celebrated, and successful.
Ciclovia/Open Streets events temporarily transform public streets into public spaces for active living. Our streets are one of the most underutilized resources we have to promote public health, community, and vibrant neighborhoods. Join us on Sunday Aug. 18 to experience CicloSDias.
This event would not be possible without the leadership of Mayor Filner, Bike Program Manager Ed Clancy, and the good work of San Diego’s Ciclovia advocacy group Streets For People. SFP has been building up support with community planning groups and stakeholders for over 3 years.

We look forward to working with you on this great event.
Thanks,
Randy
