Community Cycles is a collective of bicycle enthusiasts whose mission is
to educate and advocate the safe use of refurbished bicycles as an
affordable and sustainable means of transportation and personal
enjoyment. Community Cycles repairs donated bikes, utilizing them locally
and internationally, in teaching programs, to help anyone earn a bike as
a means of transport and recreation.
The "Earn-A-Bike" Program allows people to pick and customize a
bike of their own after 15 hours of shop time and instruction with
volunteer mechanics. Community Cycles works with Spokes Community Bicycle
Project to send bikes abroad to countries that don't have access to them
through the"Bikes Abroad" program. Their first shipment of 450
bikes went to Ghana Africa in November 2006. During the summer, Community
Cycles partners with Naropa Bike Shack to set up "Rolling Bike
Clinics", in which they train community members and then leave
behind bike repair stations for the use of the neighborhood. Community
Cycles also gives away bikes to low income families and individuals
throughout the year and sells refurbished commuter style bikes at
affordable prices.
Donate your old bike or volunteer at this wonderfulnon-profit! Visit
their store or the Boulder Food Co-op at 19th and Pearl to find the right
bike for you!
